I am originally from Upstate NY where I earned my undergraduate degree from State University of NY at Plattsburgh.  I double majored in Secondary Ed and History. Upon graduation, I fled the cold and have been employed by CMS for 23 years. I spent 19 years in the classroom teaching social studies in 6th and 8th grade. During this time, I gained National Board Certification and an M.Ed. in Middle Level Education from Winthrop University.
After being in the classroom for many years I wanted to challenge myself. I received an additional M.Ed. in School Administration and made the transition to administration here at Ardrey Kell.
I have twin boys who also attend Ardrey Kell. This adds to my investment in the school. I enjoy watching sports, reading, and traveling as much as possible in my free time.

Mr. Dale Adair | Assistant Principal

I am the 9th grade administrator, and my primary responsibilities are to provide instructional support to the Math and Physical Education Departments. I am also the administrative coordinator for safe schools, EOS, transportation, athletics, athletic boosters, textbooks, custodians, weekly athletics, and lunch supervision.

I received my undergraduate degree in Electronic and Computer Technology from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. I also earned a master’s degree in School Administration from Gardner Webb University.

An interesting fact about me is that I am married, and I have two sons. I am a native of Charlotte and I graduated from Garinger High School here in CMS. I also enjoy playing chess and having fun with my family whenever I am not fulfilling my job as assistant principal. I am in my seventh year as an administrator here at Ardrey Kell. I have been in education for twenty-three years. As a classroom teacher, I taught sixth through eighth grade math in the middle school, and I also taught GED math at Guilford Technical Community College as a part time instructor.

Hello Ardrey Kell Families!  This year I have the pleasure of working with the 11th grade students.  Prior to coming to AK, I was at Community House Middle School as a Dean of Students, and this is the same cohort of students I worked with for three years while I was there.  I am excited to see them again and see how they’ve grown.  It will be a joy to work with them again as they go through their high school years.  In addition to working with the grade level, I will also oversee the ELA department and serve as the MTSS Coordinator.

I am originally from Nashville, TN and attended the University of Tennessee for both my Bachelors in Mathematics and Masters in Curriculum and Instruction.  I moved to Charlotte in 1997 where I started working for CMS. Throughout my years with CMS, I was a Math teacher at Spaugh Middle and South Meck High.  I moved on to work in leadership as a Math Facilitator at AG Middle and then as a Dean of Students.  During this time, I worked to obtain and continue to hold my National Board and Administration certifications.

When I’m not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.  I am a diehard UT fan, and you can find me watching the games on Saturdays hoping we can beat Bama and Georgia!  I’m looking forward to a great year.

Dr. A J Hepworth | Dean of Students

I am excited to join you in the role of Dean of Students. I know transition periods can be a challenge in ones’ professional and personal life, but your initial greetings have been genuinely appreciated and made it comfortable. During my first two days here, I have learned some of the amazing features of Ardrey Kell that make it the most desirable High School in North Carolina to not only educate students, but also work. Our richly diverse environment affords us opportunities to enhance learning through inquiry and real world connections to our community.

Most recently I was the MTSS Coordinator and State Testing Facilitator at Carmel Middle here in CMS. Prior to my family relocating four years ago to Charlotte from New York, I spent more than two decades in education as both a science instructor and administrator. While in New York, I served as an Assistant Superintendent with the Office of School Quality for the New York City Department of Education, STEM High School building principal, assistant principal, K-12 STEM instructional leader, and instructor at the elementary, secondary, and graduate level. I always support instruction while empowering students and staff through the inclusion of novel pedagogy using relevant data and an academic and personally responsive learning environment.

I hold an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Biology from the University at Albany, a Masters in Earth Science from C.W. Post, and a Doctorate in Educational Administration, Leadership and Technology from Dowling College. I look forward to meeting each of you and plan to use the next few weeks to be visible in and out of each of your classrooms for my own learning and culture building. Please reach out to me should you have any suggestions or concerns as I hope to use our second semester to further advance the AK way. Lastly, I had a daughter graduate from here last year who currently attends UNC and a son who currently is a junior. My other son attends JM while my wife is a PreK teacher at Starmount. My cell is attached below should you choose to reach me via mobile.

I wish you all a great 2024, AJ

Deborah Hitt | Dean of Students

Hello Ardrey Kell Families!  I am a middle and high school math teacher by heart and now the Dean of Students here at AK.  I have been in CMS for over 25 years and plan to retire while still here at AK.  In addition to working with all students (primarily the 9th and 12th graders), I serve as the Fine Arts and World Languages department administrator, the MTSS Coordinator, the Credit Recovery/Edgenuity Coordinator, and the SEL/Homeroom Coordinator.

I am originally from Manchester, NH and attended the University of Cincinnati for my Bachelors in Elementary and Special Education and Winthrop University for my Masters in Educational Leadership.  I moved to Charlotte in 1995 where I started working for CMS and met my husband, who is a CMS graduate and also a CMS high school administrator.  We have two daughters, both who graduated from Ardrey Kell and a goldendoodle named Ozzy.

When I’m not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.  I enjoy walking outside and love DIY projects.  I’m looking forward to a great year.
