Mrs. Jamie Brooks

Greetings Ardrey Kell families!  I am Jamie Brooks and I serve as the principal here at Ardrey Kell High School.  This is my third year as the principal at AK, although I did also serve as an assistant principal here in 2007.  I earned my Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Virginia (Go Wahoos!) and later obtained a second Masters degree in Educational Administration from Winthrop.  I began teaching language arts at Carmel Middle school in 1994 before moving into the role of Assistant Principal at Northeast Middle in 2000.  I then transitioned to Mint Hill Middle when that school opened in 2003 and remained there until transferring to Ardrey Kell as an assistant principal in 2007.  From 2008 – 2020 I served as the principal of Community House Middle, one of the feeder schools to Ardrey Kell.  So, I have been in this Ballantyne community for almost 15 years and have loved every minute of it!

Throughout my years in administration, and being the mom of two young boys, I constantly saw the impact that labels had on children.  It became my passion to ensure that all children were provided with the highest levels of instruction and access to rigorous coursework, regardless of what label someone placed on them in their early years.  This has continued to be something that motivates my work.  In addition, after attending a fantastic yearlong workshop on Equity and Inclusion with other leaders from around the city, it became my second passion to ensure that I was part solutions with regards to inclusive practices and systems.  I feel very strongly that all voices matter and that it is my job to ensure each child and each family feel valued for who they are and from where they come.  Listening and learning from different perspectives helps us all to be better people…especially our kids. 

It is my honor to serve Ardrey Kell and this community.  I am a mom of a Senior Knight (and a Clemson Junior) and I want every child to have the same excellent opportunities that I want for my own.  I have two sons but 3550 children.  My door is always open so please do not ever hesitate to contact me as I welcome open, honest and productive dialogue.  Thank you for allowing me to work with your kids!
