Dear Winget Park Elementary families,
Winget Park is a partial magnet school that provides a STEM-focused
education to every student. We provide every student with the
opportunity to be creators, in every content area. We are proud of our
forward-leaning programs such as our Makerspace, our STEM
lab, Action-Based Learning classrooms and flexible seating environments.
At Winget Park, we seek to live our motto of "Unite. Create.
Innovate." every day. We unite a diverse group of students from various
programs -- neighborhood enrollment, magnet school enrollment,
Extensions classrooms, pre-kindergarten program -- to build a learning
environment that is supportive of all learners. We create daily,
building authentic representations of our learning to share with our
community. We innovate daily, seeking the best ways to meet the needs
of our students and ensure that they are moving forward daily.
Our academic program include Extensions, Pre-K, partial STEM magnet ,
Talent Development and First Lego League Robotics. We also have a wide
variety of recognition programs: the National Elementary Honor Society,
school safety patrol and monthly Proud to Be a Wolf Community Awards to
recognize students and staff who make a difference in our school
community. We also have Character Education Awards to celebrate those
who embody various character traits and monthly Den Meetings to build
school community and culture.
Let me tell you a little about myself. I earned a bachelor’s degree
in adolescent education/social studies from Fredonia State University in
New York. I have a master’s degree in adolescent education from Oneonta
State College, also in New York. I earned a certificate of advanced
studies in educational leadership from from Binghamton University in New
York. I was a middle and high school teacher in upstate New York for
eight years before coming to Charlotte. I completed my principal
residency at Albemarle Road Elementary through New Leaders and spent
three years as an assistant principal at Shamrock Gardens Elementary. In
all, I have been in education for 14 years, two of those as a school
principal. My educational philosophy is this: No significant learning
will take place without strong relationships between the student,
teacher and family. Our role as a school is to build, engage, and
enhance these relationships. With these relationships in place, we must
provide unique learning experiences that allow students to create
authentic representations of their learning and share them with a
Finally, I am the proud father of a son, Lincoln, who will be a CMS kindergartner next year!
Thank you for choosing CMS and Winget Park.
