Dear Westerly Hills Academy families,
At Westerly Hills Academy, we are building on a tradition of excellence and academic success by setting high goals for ourselves and our students. In the past three years, our trajectory for student achievement has continued to exceed expected growth on the state End-of-Grade tests. We have also offered our students expanded classroom opportunities for a high level of engagement in literacy, math and science, which helps prepare them for the next step on the educational journey.
Our school has a place for every student and we work hard to provide a safe and comfortable environment for everyone. Our students and staff are diverse. We’re proud of the community partnerships that support our staff and students to ensure we meet our goals every year. Our school-wide mission statement focuses on student achievement and our students recite it every day as a reminder to collaborate, create and communicate in order to become a leader.
Let me tell you a little about myself. Before coming here, I was assistant principal at Coulwood Middle School for nine years. Before that, I taught for 10 years at Northeast Middle and Hopewell High. These experiences have equipped me to ensure all students are prepared for middle school and beyond. I am a native of Raleigh. I earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Johnson C. Smith University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Gardner-Webb University. My husband I have two sons who attend CMS schools.
As principal of Westerly Hills Academy, as well as a Westerly Hills Academy parent, I am committed to seeing every student succeed. That means having every child ready for middle school after leaving Westerly Hills. I believe that all students can achieve and my staff and I work hard to make that happen every day.
I invite you to participate in our school community as often as you can. Please remember to register as a CMS volunteer. All volunteers must register each year and select Westerly Hills Academy as the site. Please also remember to bring your ID to sign in upon entering the school as we are working diligently to keep our school safe. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to me at 980-343-6021.
I look forward to working with you to ensure that Westerly Hills Academy continues to offer a challenging, effective educational experience in a safe, happy atmosphere.
Thank you for choosing Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and Westerly Hills Academy.
