Dear Turning Point Academy families,
Turning Point Academy has a strong commitment to serving students who are assigned to the alternative program. Turning Point Academy serves as the alternative school for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. The academy includes a high school campus, a middle school campus, four classrooms at the Mecklenburg County Jail North Youthful Offenders Program and three classrooms at the McLeod Teacher In Treatment Program.
Turning Point Academy serves approximately 300 students at any given time. Our mission is to provide an environment that focuses on the redirection of student behavior through positive programs that build character, provide educational experiences and improve academic and social growth.
Turning Point Academy’s high school campus is located at 8701 Moores Chapel Road in West Charlotte. It is an alternative-education option for high school students with long-term or 365-day suspensions. It is also available as a disciplinary reassignment for students who have committed serious violations of the Code of Student Conduct. The middle school is located on the Thompson Family Services Campus at 6800 St. Peters Lane in Matthews. It is available as an alternative education option for middle school students with long-term or 365-day suspensions, as well as a disciplinary reassignment for students who have committed serious violations of the Code of Student Conduct. The minimum assignment for middle-school students is 45 days. The middle school focuses on the social-emotional development of students through a prescribed social-emotional curriculum.
