Dear Tuckaseegee Elementary School families,

Tuckaseegee Elementary is a partial magnet with an emphasis on talent development and learning immersion.  We have a school-wide focus on the four e's: enrich, engage, explore and empower. This year, we have added a school garden which allows our students to learn through the great outdoors.

Our staff is diverse with varying amounts of experience. But we all share a common goal of providing each student with a quality education.  We are continuing to learn about best instructional practices and to focus on the basics of teaching and learning.

In January 2019, our school was named a Merit School of Excellence by the Magnet Schools of America.

Let me tell you a little about me. I earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of North Carolina Greensboro and a master’s degree in elementary education from Pfeiffer University. I also have a master’s in school administration from the University of North Carolina Charlotte. During my career, I have worked in Guilford and Union counties, as well as in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.

As an educator, I believe that all students will learn.  It is our duty as educators to create the academic conditions for all students to learn each day, finding and using the strategies that ignite students’ desire to learn.

Thank you for choosing Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and Tuckaseegee Elementary School.

Dwight Thompson, principal
