To Trillium Springs staff, parents and students,
I am honored to have been selected as the new principal of Trillium Springs Montessori School and I am so grateful to be a part of such a phenomenal school family of staff, parents and students! Our school is a beautiful place of learning for children! I am committed to maintaining that positive reputation we have in CMS and our community! Looking forward to continuing great work with passionate stakeholders to increase the understanding of the Montessori Method and completing the expansion of our growing Montessori program!!!
Over the past 20 years, I have worked as a volunteer, Teacher, Instructional Facilitator, Instructional Dean of Students, and Assistant Principal, but I consider my most important job to be that of a child advocate with an emphasis on building stronger relationships between home and school! On my pathway to live this responsibility as a Principal Leader, I earned my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of South Carolina and began teaching at Pontiac Elementary School. After moving to Charlotte for new beginnings in 2003, I earned my National Board Teaching Certification in English Language Arts-Literacy in 2005 and served children and parents of Mallard Creek Elementary as a Teacher and Instructional Facilitator. My desire to support children with greater needs brought me to Hickory Grove Elementary where passionate educational projects lead me to earn my Master's degree in Educational Leadership at Gardner Webb University (Charlotte). Later I was promoted to Assistant Principal at Winterfield Elementary and earned my Educational Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction at Lincoln Memorial University in Kingsport, Tennessee. Learning never stops for me! While I truly enjoyed working with the staff, parents, and students at WES, I could not turn down the opportunity to open Trillium Springs Montessori with former Principal Rachel McKenzie! While opening our school, I had the opportunity to complete my Admin. Montessori certification with other professionals within CMS. It was at this moment I felt at home, where best practices I have always used or was aware of, were just very close to the Montessori way! This moment opened up a journey of deep reflections about successfully nurturing students on a pathway to independence through a purposefully designed Montessori curriculum and materials.
Again, I am so thankful to have the opportunity to bring all that I have experienced and learned with me to this wonderful community of passionate Leaders! We are all Leaders! Thank you for the beautiful messages on Facebook, the thoughtful cards and flowers, the encouraging email messages, and for your support through the panel and at the Board meeting! Most importantly, thank you for sharing your most precious pride and joy with me, your child!
As we roll up our sleeves together during my transition, let's not ignore that there is a need for us to unite closer around Dr. Maria Montessori's pedagogy in order to provide our students with the best learning opportunities at home and school – the learning opportunities that nurture our children's potential to become change-makers in our World! Together, let's wrap our minds around this need and actively support our Teachers to successfully guide our students there! Let's do great things together!!
