Meet Our Principal

Dear Cardinals,

I am thrilled to be in my fifth year as Principal of Stoney Creek Elementary.  I would like to share a little bit about my background and my passion for elementary education.

I grew up in Denver, Colorado and graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a degree in Spanish (Go Buffs!).  Upon graduating, I taught 4
th and 5th grade students in a bilingual classroom within Denver Public Schools.  After a few years in the classroom, I decided to return to school myself and pursued a law degree at Loyola University-New Orleans. Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans during my first week of law school, which certainly defined my experience there.  I moved to North Carolina after graduation and quickly found my way back to working with children, first at an organization that worked with at-risk youth and foster children and ultimately becoming a school administrator with CMS.  I served as an assistant principal at West Mecklenburg High School and worked in the CMS Office of Transformation and Human Resources before becoming the Principal of Stoney Creek Elementary in 2015.  You will almost always find me at Stoney Creek or in the Plaza Midwood neighborhood, where we recently moved with my son Ryan, who was born in June 2017.

What I love most about Stoney Creek is the strong community among our teachers, parents, and students.
I am always available and happy to speak with parents and students.  Please do not hesitate to contact me through the front office if there is anything that you need.

Ms. Barr

Queridos Cardenales,
