Extracurricular Activities

Dilworth Elementary School and Dilworth PTA support the following activities:

  • Odyssey of the Mind: OM is an international educational program for grades 3-5 that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics.
  • Math Olympiad: Sponsored by our TD teacher Ms. Fergusson. For details about the program please email Math Olympiad is for grades 3-5 and meets after school. This club is for fourth and fifth grade only and does not begin until October.
  • WDES News Team: Morning announcements are delivered via our closed-circuit video system to every classroom by a team of 5th grade anchors. School Librarian, Kendra Lipscomb mentors and coordinates the team.
  • Safety Patrol: The Safety Patrol Team is made up of 5th grade students who monitor the hallways before school and during dismissal. Safety Patrol also takes charge of the raising and lowering of our school flags daily.
  • Robotics: The Robotics team is selected by tryouts beginning in the Spring of 2022. Tryouts are limited to rising 4th and 5th graders. The Robotics team meets regularly during their lunch period and after school throughout the fall leading up to their tournament in the spring.
  • Honors Chorus: Honors Chorus is open to rising 4th and 5th grade students. Tryouts are held in music specials during the first part of the school year with our music teacher, Candy Hayes.
  • Dragon Drumline: 5th grade students are chosen to play the drums to lead in the quarterly Dragon House meetings.
  • Yearbook Reporters: Fifth Grade Yearbook Reporters apply via application at the beginning of the school year. Selections are made by the PTA Yearbook Chairs in conjunction with teacher recommendation/approval.
  • Student Council: Our Student Council is mentored by the 5th grade teaching team. Officers are elected by their classmates and voting is open to 3rd-5th grade students.

We also allow several outside organizations to use our school space in the afternoons. Please contact these organizations directly for further information.

  • Girls on the Run – Girls on the Run meets Tuesdays and Thursdays or Mondays and Wednesdays after school at Dilworth. The program educates and prepares preteen girls for a lifetime of self respect and healthy living. Admission in the popular program is done by lottery. For more information, please visit:
  • Let Me Run – Let Me Run is a non-profit program aimed at strengthening boys in body and spirit. For details go to

  • Mad Science – Mad Science offers science based enrichment activities that spark imaginative learning in children ages 4-12. For more information, please visit:

  • Cub Scouts- Ready for some outdoor adventure?

Cub Scout Pack 1 is recruiting new Cubs Scouts.

Pack 1 meets on Tuesdays at 6:30 pm at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church,
located at 2701 Park Road.
Cub Scouts is now open to girls and boys in kindergarten through 5th grade.
Families are invited to join us to learn about the Cub Scout program and the
fun activities planned this year, which include an aquarium trip, camping on
an aircraft carrier and building your own pinewood derby car.
