Weekly Message From The Principal:
I hope my message finds you and your family well. In response to the Coronavirus outbreak, I have created the Cardinal Connection—a weekly message designed to assist you and your child through the recent school closing. In my position as Principal, I prioritize the well-being, safety, and security of all students and families—I assure you that as a family we will weather this storm and persevere through any challenge together.
First and foremost, I hope to reduce any anxieties, worries, and concerns you and your child may have, as well as, provide students with some sense of normalcy and routine. We are navigating through an unprecedented time with uncertainties and many unknowns. I ask you to please be patient with us as we coordinate communication and logistics.
In the midst of the present challenges, I believe our students must continue to learn and grow. I commit to you that our staff has already made the necessary accommodations to continue teaching and learning remotely.
Our faculty and staff met Monday and Tuesday to discuss the academic expectations for each of your child’s classes and plan supplemental learning activities through CANVAS. All teachers will use CANVAS at Berry to help all families easily access content.
Academic content and supplemental learning will begin Monday, March 23 in which the teachers CANVAS course will include: announcements, contact information, office hours, video messages, and tasks. Teachers will provide feedback to students and instructional touch points, but will not enter grades for supplemental work in PowerSchool. Students will have safe practice in their learning and be able to access a teacher through CANVAS or email communication.
Please encourage your child to login to their CANVAS courses and interact with their teacher. We will provide student updates through weekly emails and classroom announcements.
To best keep our families informed, we have created a page on our school website with links to resources. We will continue to send Connect 5 phone messages weekly and encourage all parents to join the Remind Alerts class (text @pobalerts to 81010). I will send a Cardinal Connection message weekly with any federal, state, district or school level changes as they arise.
Cardinal Families, we will maintain transparency and keep an open line of communication to enable you to best care for your family. We will all be better together.
Self Care Tip
Families, this week I rode my bike on the Mallard Creek Greenway. In three days, I logged 33 miles on the bike. Exercise and outdoor time has sustained me in this period of uncertainty. The Surgeon General has recommended that families maintain 30 minutes of exercise daily. Consider taking a walk around your home or doing a physical activity with your family to help manage this period of stress. I have shared an article from the CDC on how to manage stress and anxiety. We are here for you.
