A Note from Paw Creek Support Team
Dear Paw Creek Families,
We miss you and your children here at Paw Creek. Our students may feel stress or anxiety related to
such a big change in our day to day. Remember that they are looking to their parents and caregivers for
guidance on how to react to these stressful events. Remind them that you and the adults at your school
are there to keep them safe and healthy. Tell them you love them and give them plenty of affection. You
may want to consider limiting television or other social media to reduce anxiety. Some of the updates
may not be developmentally appropriate, and the confusion can add to the stress, too. For younger
children, brief and simple information that provides facts and reassurance can be helpful. Also, give
them simple examples of steps that people use to stop germs and stay healthy, such as washing hands
and coughing or sneezing into a tissue or their elbow. Older children may need help separating rumor
from fantasy. Your older middle and high school students may get more of a sense of control if directed
to appropriate sources that provide honest, accurate and factual information.
Some of you may be having a hard time with students at home all day and trying to manage your own
jobs or duties. We want to support you and want to hear from you if you need to know more about
available resources. Your child’s teacher is your first point of contact. Our Student Support Services team
will be working to assist our teachers with your needs. We recommend that you start by developing a
daily schedule at home. Make sure to balance play and work time. Consider getting up and getting
dressed even if you are staying home, and also make your bed! Work in time to do reading, math and
writing. You can email your teachers for feedback or more ideas. Consider trying some mindfulness
activities – including yoga or meditation. Include some time for chores and playing outside. Set aside
some time as a family for games, making a meal or discussing your thoughts and feelings. We will
continue to post resources and ideas. Let us know your areas of interest!
