Virtual Learning Guides and Videos

Ms. Melissa compiled a comprehensive list of guides, videos, step by step directions, and more. Topics covered are Canvas, Google, Read&Write for Google Chrome, NCEdCloud and Clever, Zoom, ONE Access and NCWiseOwl for research, Sora for eBooks, PRM library books, and even brain break ideas. This document is everything you need for Virtual Learning and should provide you with assistance with frequently asked questions and troubleshooting. http://bit.ly/PRMvirtualguides (link opens in a new window) Please be sure to bookmark or print this document
for quick reference.

Steps for Researching Online using ONE Access and NCWiseOwl

Ms. Melissa also created a document about Researching Online using the databases in ONE Access and NCWiseOwl to find all kinds of information. http://bit.ly/PRMresearchonline (link opens in a new window) This document gives step by step instructions for searching in each database. Please encourage your children to use these safe and appropriate databases when researching rather than searching on Google or Wikipedia.

We know there has been a lot of information shared in the last few weeks, and it is hard to keep track! In an attempt to help we've compiled a Back to School Checklist (link opens in a new tab) with everything you need to know in one place. There are links to useful tutorial videos, Canvas instructions, the PTO website and much more about Park Road Montessori School. If you have questions about any of the items please contact Ms. Melanie.

On August 17, 2020 the Board of Education voted to approve a plan regarding the opening of school.

Plan B+ Remote Option

All students will attend school on a three or four day rotation during the first 10 days of school to meet/reconnect with their teachers and become acquainted with their remote learning technology tools

and procedures. Students will be assigned a letter (A, B, or C) that will identify the days they should

attend school. This will enable schools to operate safely and allow for social distancing and other measures as the school will operate at a third of the normal capacity. This assignment will be communicated to parents later this summer and are set in place as created by the district. Students assigned to Cohort A will attend school August 17 - 19. Students assigned to Cohort B will attend school August 20 - 25. Students assigned to Cohort C will attend school August 26 - 28. Effective August 31, all students will begin remote/virtual instruction from home. These rotations will offer opportunities to

develop lasting student/teacher relationships that nurture student growth throughout the school year.

**No action is needed to participate in Plan B+ Remote.

Full Remote Academy Option

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is also offering a fully remote option for parents to consider. The Full Remote Academy is 100% remote with no in-person August instruction. Full Remote Academy teachers will primarily be teachers from Park Road; however, instruction could also be provided by teachers from other schools based upon enrollment numbers. Parents can opt into the Full Remote Academy instead of Plan B+ Remote between July 17 and July 26. Students who register for the Full Remote Academy will

not be able to opt-out until the end of the first semester in December. Thus, it is a half-year commitment even if school returns to any form of face-to-face instruction.

*Students must sign up via CMS Communication to participate in Full Remote Academy. https://www.cms.k12.nc.us/News/Pages/FullRemoteAcademyInfo.aspx (link opens in a new window)

Expectations for Remote/Virtual Instruction

Regardless of the option you select for your child, expectations for remote/virtual instruction will look different from what you experienced from March 13 until June 9. For example; attendance, assignments, and assessments will not be optional, but required. Teachers will provide both synchronous (live) and asynchronous (recorded) instructional for all classes. All students will be provided with a Chromebook or Ipad. Students who attended Park Road last year should already have their school assigned

Chromebook or iPad and charger in their possession.

Stay tuned as we continue to keep you up-to-date on what’s next. There are many details yet to come.

We are planning our virtual “Back to School Open House” event for August 13th and will provide additional information soon. Thank you for continued support as we work through these unprecedented times. We have a wonderful, dedicated staff who will see that your child continues to get a quality education.
