Welcome to Oakdale Elementary School

August 2020

Greetings Oakdale Elementary Families:

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year...OUR WINNING SEASON! I hope you are excited about the opportunity to team together for a new, unprecedented year! As we embark on a school year unlike any other we have experienced, we are hopeful that we will have the teamwork and partnerships from parents that are needed for all of our students to be successful.

This will be my fourth year serving as building principal at Oakdale Elementary. I look forward to maintaining our growth and continuing to take us to higher levels in new ways! I am very proud to serve this school community and pledge my commitment, service and leadership in cultivating a school that is an optimal place to learn, work and grow! This year, we need parent support and involvement more than ever.

There are very important changes that have been made to keep everyone safe in the midst of COVID-19.

To begin the year, the Board of Education chose Plan C, which means we are fully remote. Remote learning means students will engage in school based learning and activities using a technology device away from the school building. This decision was made in an effort to keep all students safe while providing quality, equitable, aligned access to the academic and social emotional learning required. This is very different from what we experienced in the spring. Students will need to be online at given times to report to class and will need to produce work that will be graded by teachers. This is why it is so important for parents to stay involved so that you know when your child should be online doing classwork and keeping up with assignments.

It is important to note that information changes daily at this time and we are trying to keep you informed as quickly as we can. Oakdale Elementary Instagram @theoaknc and our school website are the best ways for us to do that.

● At this time, we are not allowing visitors to the school. Staff are the only persons entering the school. If a parent has to come to the school to register or to update an address, they MUST come alone. Please remember a mask is required to be worn in the building at all times.

● You should expect a phone call from your child’s grade level team between Aug 7- Aug 11. Please accept the call and prepare to ask any questions you may have at that time.

Our staff is dedicated to ensuring that our school has a safe and orderly environment with high academic expectations for all students. This year, more than ever, this will need to be done with strong, positive home/school communication. We are still committed to building strong relationships with our families as well. With your help, I am confident it will be a WINNING school year for your child.

It is extremely important that you and your child carefully read all of the information contained in this mailing and keep it on hand for reference. If you have questions about any information, please do not hesitate to call us at 980-343-6076. On behalf of the entire administrative team and staff at Oakdale Elementary, I wish each of you a WINNING school year. Continue to enjoy your summer, and I look forward to seeing all of you when we return virtually for the first day of school August 17th!
