Dear Mallard Creek Elementary families,
Mallard Creek Elementary is a Learning Immersion and Talent Development magnet school serving scholars in kindergarten through grade five. We empower and inspire a very diverse population of scholars to reach their fullest potential. Scholars learn through a rigorous curriculum that involves critical thinking and solving problems. We work collaboratively with staff, parents and the community to promote an environment that supports our scholars’ academic, intellectual and social emotional needs, while valuing and fostering their unique gifts and abilities. Our mission is to promote learning through multiple pathways that maximize their abilities to be successful in the 21st century. We encourage independent and creative thinking, leadership, artistic skills, collaborative problem-solving and celebration of diversity.
The vision of our magnet program is to empower our scholars to reach their fullest potential academically, socially and emotionally. This aligns with our overall goals and objectives to encourage creative and critical thinking, leadership, artistic skills and collaborative problem solving. We foster a positive learning environment so our scholars to feel accepted and encouraged to develop their own identities, gifts and talents.
We were pleased to obtain overall growth of 81 percent for the third-, fourth- and fifth-grade NC Ready Assessments in the 2017-2018 academic year. Mallard Creek Elementary School received recognition as a 2018 School of Distinction by the Magnet Schools of America organization.
Let me tell you a little about myself. I have been in education for 24 years, three of them as a principal. I believe it is important for leaders to model what they expect from others. Each day I strive to show our scholars and staff a positive, professional who is focused on supporting them in reaching their goals. I earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Campbell University. I received the North Carolina Principal Fellows' Scholarship and earned my master’s degree in school administration from Fayetteville State University. I also earned a master’s degree in human resource management from Western Carolina University and certification in academically or intellectually gifted education from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. I am married to a retired school administrator who is also a proud Army veteran. We have one daughter who is a sophomore in college.
Thank you for choosing Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and Mallard Creek Elementary.
