Opening schools
We will open the 2020-2021 school year Aug. 17 with fully remote
learning under the CMS Plan C. This plan is designed to address worsening
COVID-19 conditions and was an option given to districts by N.C. Gov. Roy
Cooper in a statewide announcement July 14.
Academic
update
Virtual Family Canvas Connects will
be held for all CMS students and families to ensure they have a consistent
experience when using Canvas, the district’s learning management system.
Families can register
now; topics will include what to expect with Canvas, how to access the Canvas
app and pair it with a student account, and the functions available to parents.
Sessions will be held Aug. 10, 6-7 p.m.; Aug. 12, 8-9 a.m.; and Aug. 14, noon-1
p.m.
Meal
applications
Families
can now apply
for meal benefits for the 2020-2021 school year. This applies to students
who will be learning at school or from home. Approved students may also qualify
for discounted fees for college applications, pay-to-play athletics, academic
tests (SAT, ACT, Advanced Placement) and internet access from some providers.
Also:
- Meal prices will remain the same next year. All
students will receive breakfast at no charge. Lunch prices are $2.50,
pre-kindergarten; $2.75, kindergarten to eighth grade; and $3, ninth to 12th
grade.
Medical
advisory team
CMS
has assembled a medical advisory team that will recommend metrics for
determining when we can safely transition to in-person instruction. The team
includes members of our medical community from the public and private sectors,
as well as district staff. We expect to convene soon and will provide updates
on the team’s progress.
The CMS
Call Center will be prepared to field questions, concerns. The phone number is (980) 343-3001.
All staff and scholars will utilize Canvas as our learning management system for the 2020-2021
school year. Please read the information below and download the app.
