Welcome
Greetings, Huntersville Elementary Families, Welcome to Huntersville Elementary! We are one of the oldest schools in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and we’re located in the heart of downtown Huntersville. The historical Agriculture Building stands on our grounds to this day.

At our school, our mission is to motivate all students to excel academically and become productive 21st-century citizens. We have a strong tradition of academic excellence and our school motto is A Higher Educational Standard. We pride ourselves on being one of the top-performing schools in the northern end of Mecklenburg County.

Over the years, we have cultivated a rich instructional culture in which students are encouraged to take charge of their own learning through personalized learning experiences. We also recognize the need for our students' emotional learning and character development through daily morning meetings and our Buddy's Best character-education program.

I invite you to participate in our school community as often as you can. Please remember to register as a CMS volunteer. All volunteers must register each year and select Huntersville Elementary as the site. Please also remember to bring your ID to sign in upon entering the school, as we are working diligently to keep our school safe.

Let me tell you a little bit about me. I am a graduate of the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill with a bachelor’s degree in political science. I taught social studies at McClintock Middle for six years. I also hold a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina Charlotte in educational leadership, where I was a North Carolina Principal Fellow. Before coming to Huntersville in the 2014-2015 school year, I was principal at Mountain Island Elementary, now Mountain Island Lake Academy. I have been in education for 25 years, 13 of them as a principal in CMS.

On a personal level, I have strong roots in this area. My wife, Rachel, is an announcer at WDAV at Davidson College. We are also the parents of two boys, both proud graduates of the International Baccalaureate program at North Mecklenburg High. As a principal, I am committed to providing the best education possible to each of our students and I believe that building relationships is the key to student success. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns. I can be reached at 980-343-3835 or Jeff Ruppenthal I look forward to working with you to ensure that Huntersville Elementary continues to offer a challenging and effective educational experience in a safe, happy atmosphere. Thank you for choosing CMS and Huntersville Elementary.
