Welcome Back Hickory Grove Families!
On behalf of our dedicated team of educators, I would like to welcome you to the 2020-21 school year. It is our hope that you and the ones you love are both safe and healthy at this time. Our school leadership team and staff have been working in concert with district personnel to thoroughly prepare for multiple return to school scenarios. While the setting for where we learn may shift based on the most relevant data at that point in time, our core values have not changed. We remain steadfast in our commitment to offering a safe learning environment, addressing the social-emotional needs of every child and providing equitable access to grade appropriate standards and content. While the current landscape presents several challenges, please know that the Hickory Grove staff is working tirelessly to ensure that every child has a nurturing, rigorous and exciting learning adventure.
In a time of great uncertainty, I am confident that our success as a school will hinge greatly upon the relationships forged between school staff and the families we serve. We recognize the burden that has been placed on our families over these past months. As a result, we vow to work closely with all families to ensure your child has a successful school year. This means we are committed to clearly articulating our reopening plan, communicating updates in a timely manner, assisting students/families with navigating online learning platforms/materials, and seeking your input on how to best serve your child. You can expect communication through multiple sources this school year including our school website, school Facebook page, Class Dojo, Phone Messaging and “Townhall meetings” led by me.
Because of the Pandemic, CMS is limiting the number of people in our building to ensure the safety of all. Therefore, until further notice, only school staff and students on rotation will be permitted in the building past the front office. If a parent does need to come into the school for reasons such as registering a student, they will need to be screened, have their temperature taken, and wear a mask. All staff on the premises will follow the same procedure before being permitted access to the building. Our main goal is safety for all.
Hickory Grove will continue to distribute technology to students who need it. Hotspots are available to any family in need upon request. K-2 students received an IPad for their own use. Students in grades 3 – 5 received chromebooks. Many students received technology last year. If your child is in 3-5 and received a chromebook, we ask that they hold on to this for use in the remote setting. However, we realize that some chromebooks are no longer in working order. If this is the case, families can return the damaged device to the school. We only ask that you coordinate a pick-up day and time with the classroom teacher first.
First Days of School
We will use the first 2 days of school to establish relationships with students, teach them expectations, and acclimate them to remote learning. This onboarding time will be essential to sustained success and inbedded along with instruction.
If you have changed phone numbers or addresses in the past three months, please remember to contact the school, and provide us with the updated phone number/address. It is very important that the school has a correct phone number for your family. Your child’s homeroom teacher will contact you on August 11th.
Ms. Pitt, Ms. Hammond and I are available throughout the school day to answer any questions and help families transition to our new normal for the 2020-2021 school year. The Hickory Grove staff is excited and ready to provide our scholars with the greatest learning experience possible. Please know that we are here to support our families in any way that we can.
We have many great things planned for the 2020-2021 school year. I look forward to our collaboration this school year as we work together to navigate this new landscape.
