Welcome Elizabeth Traditional families and visitors to our website.  I am excited about the 2020-2021 school year, and I am looking forward to working with new and established families. I have been at this amazing school for 16 years, and I am honored to call ETES my home away from home!

Elizabeth Traditional School is a magnet school with a focus on leadership development.  We were recognized last year as a 2020 Magnet School of Distinction by Magnet Schools of America.  Our school is a Leader in Me school developed by Stephen Covey.  Students learn how to incorporate Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People in order to develop skills that help them become more self-reliant.  Our leadership curriculum is designed to develop skills that help students learn how to take initiative, plan ahead, set and track learning goals, prioritize time, be considerate of others, resolve conflicts, and value differences in order to confidently lead their lives. To learn more about Leader in Me schools, visit LEADERINME.ORG and make sure you come to one of our school tours.  We are offering four virtual tours this year, and the dates and times are linked here.

On a more personal note, I grew up in a small town in North Carolina and graduated from Appalachian State University with a BA in Elementary Education with a concentration in middle school language arts and social studies.  I began my teaching career in Norfolk, Virginia.  While in Norfolk, I taught fourth and fifth grades.  When I returned to Charlotte to be closer to my family, I continued to teach upper elementary grades.  After 12 years of teaching experience, I decided to return to school to earn a Master’s in School Administration at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte.  Next, I began working as an assistant principal at Shamrock Gardens and ETES before being named principal here.

My husband and I have a daughter who is currently a senior in high school.  We enjoy traveling together, going to the beach with family and taking care of two very energetic dogs!  We are also big fans of the Carolina Panthers!

Again, I am looking forward to a great school year and hope to see you in the building soon!

About ETES

Elizabeth Traditional Elementary was established as one of Charlotte's first elementary schools in the year 1912. The school's building structures, name, and curriculum have been altered over the years to meet the various demands of a diverse and ever-shifting population.   Elizabeth has an active partnership with Central Piedmont Community College, the Augustine Project, Queens University and many local businesses in the Elizabeth community.  We offer a variety of learning and leadership opportunities during the school day and through our before and after school activities including chess club, Mad Science, Odyssey of the Mind, soccer clubs, golf clubs, Girls on the Run, and Let Me Run.

Elizabeth Traditional is implementing its fifth year of the Leader in Me program.  This magnet theme enhancement incorporates Stephen Covey's "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" in the K-5 curriculum.  Students experience academic goal setting and a learn leadership skills through our Leader in Me curriculum.

Again, I am looking forward to a great school year.  Please visit our Facebook page and our PTA website for updates throughout the school year!
