Principal's Weekly Update

Weekly Update

Rick Parker.JPGWeekly Update: Friday Update 5-20-22

Good evening, this is Rick Parker, Principal of East Mecklenburg High School, calling with our Friday Weekly Update. Our choir concert packed out the house on Tuesday, May 17th with their amazing voices. Also, our Art department had their Art Exhibit on Thursday, May 19th in the media center displaying their outstanding artistic abilities. Seventy-five people attended. I am so proud of all our students’ accomplishments! Today we had our Senior Carowinds Trip and Freshman Field Day.

Tomorrow night is Prom 2022 at the Fillmore in the Music Factory.

  • Date: May 21st 2022
  • Event Time: 8pm-12am
  • Location: The Filmore located at 820 Hamilton St, Charlotte, NC 28206
  • Parking for Students: This is also free for students in the parking garage adjacent to The Filmore, but parking pass distribution will happen on site. We will have chaperones handing out parking passes to students as they arrive from 7:45-9 pm. This is the easiest and most efficient way to distribute hundreds of passes, as I just found out about this on May 13th, after tickets had already been distributed/picked-up by students. Mrs. Robin Williams and her husband will be my point people for this process. If needed, I will support them by asking a couple more chaperones to help in this process.

Exam Updates: The schedule for exams is on the EMHS website.  Please make sure your child is on campus before 7:15 each day.  Plan accordingly to allow for traffic and time to wait in line at the scanners.  If you would like for your child to have dismissal after exams, please complete the google forms on the EMHS website.  If the form is completed for the online, the parent will not have to sign the student out in the main office.

IMPORTANT: The last day for students to turn in work for second semester that meets deadline requirements is June 6th @ 12:01 am.

Please note, if students are attending Summer School, they will need to have the Chromebook verified by Dr. Austin in order to keep the Chromebook for the summer. But student’s name must be on the Summer School list before being allowed for Quick Verification. If you need more information, have your student check with their teachers or Dr. Austin.

Summer School for the 2021-2022 school year will be virtual and hosted through a program called Edgenuity.  It will run from June 13-Aug 3 and students will have the opportunity to obtain a total of 4 credits.  Any student failing a core class will be enrolled in the program and can begin working on June 13.  We will host a virtual parent night to explain and answer questions on June 2 at 6pm.  A link will be sent out in a separate connect ed and posted on the East Meck website. An email will be sent to students' email addresses, a letter will be sent home, and parents can check PowerSchool to see if their students has failed a course.  If you have any questions please email Mr. Edde, joel.edde@cms.k12.nc.us.

Please take a moment and check out the May East 495 Connector.

The 2022-23 'Intent to Ride' link will be available to parents this afternoon and will remain open until the 10th of June.  Families will need their student ID to access the form but it's important to note that the form is only available to transportation eligible students who have been assigned a school for the 2022-23 school year (The form will not work if the student isn't eligible for transportation).   Rising PreK students who have not been placed will not be able to access the form either.  We spoke with the PreK department so they are aware and to assist they are doing their best to place these students as soon as possible.

The PTSO is searching for a Secretary for next year! The Secretary attends PTSO meetings and is primarily responsible for assembling and distributing meeting agendas and recording and distributing meeting minutes. The Secretary also oversees a few committee chairs. The time commitment is moderate for the year. Please email emhsptso@gmail.com with questions or if you're interested in lending your talents to the PTSO!

Lastly remember, “the best view comes after the hardest climb!”

Have a great weekend!
