Good evening, this is Rick Parker, Principal of East Mecklenburg High School, calling with our Friday Weekly Update. We have had another solid week of classes on East 495. We are now following a regular bell schedule. Each Monday of the week, during homeroom, we will have our social emotional learning program, Seven Mindsets. Students are doing well moving to and from classes being OTOT (On Time On Target). The only area I have observed needing improvement is morning arrival and reporting to first block on time. We have had 30 or more students arriving late to school. As a reminder, if a student is late to class, they receive a lockout and lunch detention the first three times. If it continues additional consequences are given (In School Suspension, Afterschool Detention). Please work with your student to get to school on time. Classes start at 7:15 a.m.
Next week is our Homecoming Spirit Week. Monday, 9/13 is Jersey Day; Tuesday, 9/14 is Hollywood Day; Wednesday, 9/15 is Iconic Duo Day; Thursday, 9/16 is a Teacher Workday – No School; Friday, 9/17 is Blue and Gold Day for the Homecoming Game. Please come and show your school spirit.
HOSA is having a Blood Drive on Wednesday, 9/15. You must be 16 years old to donate.
From Students Services:
Class changes are done for this semester! Thanks to everyone for following our procedure and waiting patiently for counselors to go through 492 requests from students!
Next up: Senior Meetings. Seniors, be on the lookout in the coming week for a schedule of meetings. There will be a poster copy of schedule near the lunchroom and digital copies in Canvas, on Student Services website, and social media. It is your responsibility to know when your meeting is happening and to attend. We know you can do it....you are seniors! Meetings will be in the Media Center.
A reminder from Nurse Crystal:
Please make sure your students are up to date with their required immunizations. Check your records and talk to your doctors. Students with incomplete immunization records will not be allowed to attend after September 24th. And remember all seniors need to have 2 Meningococcal vaccines.
