Weekly Upate - August 7, 2020
Good evening, this is Rick Parker, Principal of East Mecklenburg High School, calling with our Friday Weekly Update. I hope everyone is having a great summer and getting ready for the first day of virtual school on August 17th. Yesterday we launched our short N.E.S.T. (New Eagle Success Training) video that highlighted some of East Mecklenburg's administrators and captured several of our student ambassadors giving a virtual tour of the school. You can find the link to the video on the main East Meck website to watch at your leisure. To help prepare all students for the start of school on August 17th, the East Meck team and I will be introducing on Monday, August 10th our East 495 Remote Tips to Starting School. Every day for seven days one of our staff members will be sharing a tip to help our students prepare for school. This should be very informative and helpful as we begin remote learning. All the East 495 Remote Tips to Start School will be posted on our East Meck website for you to review.
New Students to CMS or students needing CMS Issued Chromebook or Students having Chromebook Issues can come to our Technology Drive Thru Hours: August 12th - August 28th - 7:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. daily. Students can report any Chromebook issue to: bit.ly/StudentVirtualTechSupport. Also, any students that need to return books that they had last year may bring them during these hours. We will be issuing instructional packets, textbooks, etc. during these days. I will be sending out a list of class instructional materials that need to be picked to make sure students are prepared for their classes.
My Back to School letter to Students and Parents is being prepared for mailing. It will have my letter, the student schedule, an informational flyer for parents, PTSO information, and our daily class schedule.
On Thursday, August 13th from 5 p.m. -7 p.m. we will have our Virtual Open House to allow students and parents to explore the East Meck digital learning environment and opportunities for families to engage virtually in various support groups such as PTSO, booster club, etc. Students and Parents will be able to attend a Drop-in Zoom Meeting with their teacher during this time to say hello and meet the teacher.
It is my goal for all students to have a fantastic voyage this year on East 495 Remote. To ensure this happens, one of the most important jobs for us this year is drive a positive culture (in-person or remote) that energizes and encourages people to learn and grow, fosters connected relationships and models great teamwork.
Thank you for your support!
Have a great weekend! Be safe!
