Weekly Update - February 19, 2021

Rick Parker.JPGGood evening, this is Rick Parker, Principal of East Mecklenburg High School calling with our Friday Weekly Update. Well, the moment has finally arrived for many of our students to return to the schoolhouse in-person on rotation A, B, and C. I am very excited to see many of our students! We are ready to go on East 495!

We have created a user-friendly East Meck Systems of Operations for Student/Families COVID Edition Informational Guide for everyone to have and review to be prepared for Monday, February 22nd. We will also have a Screencast Monday morning during SEL time to walk students through the packet's information. Please use the link provided to access the Student/Families Packet.

The ACT is February 23rd for all Juniors and it's free! Only Juniors will report to school on February 23rd to take the ACT.  The 23rd will be a full remote asynchronous learning day for all other students.  The bus will pick up Juniors at their regular assigned bus stop. Dismissal is at 12:30 pm.  Bag lunches will be provided. Students will need to bring their fully charged chrome book, a calculator, and an ID.  If you still do not know your room assignment for test day, ask any staff member.

For juniors on full remote who do not know their bus information, please contact Mr. Edde at joel.edde@cms.k12.nc.us.

For students planning to drive to school for in person learning or the ACT, please park in a spot in the student lot. There are no assigned spaces, parking passes, or parking fees this year. Please drive carefully.

IB Update: Attention all 11th and 12th grade IB families- Based on the ongoing pandemic situation, IB has approved all CMS IB high schools to assess students using IB's non-exam route.  The non-exam route means that CMS will not administer IB examinations in May 2021.  Students' IB scores will be based in part on internal and external assessments required by IB.  More details regarding the IB non-exam route and additional second semester exams will be coming from CMS as the district completes its planning for the spring testing season. Further information for the families that are impacted by this will be coming from Ms. Hays in the next week.
