AVID’s Mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students
for college readiness and success in a global society.

Acceleration NOT Remediation

AVID + Schoolwide = Student-wide impact

CMS AVID Vision & Mission

Vision: The vision of the CMS AVID College and career readiness system is to be a school-wide approach to collaboratively narrow the K-12 achievement and opportunity gaps; to provide a college based future for all scholars to reach their full potential.

Mission: We will encourage a universal growth mindset by providing dynamic and relevant opportunities and resources, as well as equitable access to rigorous coursework. We will ensure fidelity through comprehensive data collection, analysis, and feedback.

AVID students and Right Moves For Youth participants had the opportunity to  tour Johnson C. Smith University on October 30, 2017. In addition to touring the campus, students were able to visit the Black History Exhibit entitled “Courage: The Vi

sion to End Segregation the Guts to Fight for it”.  Student were instructed by the tour guide to come away with at least one thing they learned.  As we exited the campus library, Miss Alexis, our tour guide, asked students for his/her fact. Our DHA students also learned about the academic programs currently offered at JCSU. AN added bonus to our college experience was to  dine in the cafeteria on campus. Our students were highly engaged as they walked the campus, sat in a lecture hall and asked questions. This experience provided a college-ready mindset for all the students who participated.
