Dear David Cox Road Elementary School families,
David Cox, located near the University of North Carolina in Charlotte, has a traditional elementary school structure. We strive to provide rigorous instruction for all students with high levels of parent engagement to support our goals. We are proud to have been recognized as a Family Instructional Team (FIT) school, an indicator of the strength of collaboration with our families to support the academic goals of our students. We also take pride in our strong school culture, supported by emphasis on character development, as well as our Dynamite Dolphins Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports program. David Cox has been designated a model school by North Carolina for our use of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports.
Let me tell you a little about me. I’ve been in education for 24 years, 13 of them as a principal. I have a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in school administration from UNC Charlotte. During my time in CMS, I have served as classroom teacher at Smithfield and Blythe elementary schools. I also served as assistant principal at Huntersville and Cornelius elementary schools and as principal at Davidson and Allenbrook elementary schools. This is my fourth year of service to the Dynamite Dolphins at David Cox.
I believe that each student is unique, with varied talents, interests and needs. As principal, I work to help ensure that the school and classroom environment provides students the best opportunity to learn and grow. I want all students to master the academic, social and emotional learning goals that will help them reach their greatest potential. Meeting the needs of the whole child will allow our students to have a world of opportunity ahead of them.
I look forward to working with you and your student. Thank you for choosing Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and David Cox Road Elementary.
Celeste Spears-Ellis, principal
