School Performance Grade

Dear Cotswold IB World School Parent:

Throughout the year, we provide regular updates to you about your child's academic progress by conducting parent/teacher conferences and sending home a Report Card. Once a year, we provide you with updates on our school's achievements through the North Carolina School Performance Grade.

For the third year, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction required by the North Carolina General Assembly assigns each school an A through F School Performance Grade. The grades are calculated and reported by the NC Department of Public Instruction .They are based 80 percent on proficiency (the percentage of students in the school at or above grade level in a specific subject) and 20 percent on growth (the rate at which students in the school learned over the past year).

The state's School Performance Grade for Cotswold IB World School is a "B". The grade is based on last year's test scores. The students test scores that were included in this grade are our current fourth and fifth graders and our fifth graders who graduated from Cotswold IB World School last June.

Our rich school program at Cotswold IB World School is not depicted through the school performance grade only. The data on the report card only tells a part of our school's story. At our school, we are proud of all of our accomplishments such as: Our award winning IB Program, our Magnet School of Excellence recognitions and our National Character Recognitions. We are proud of our PTA, our partnerships with the community, our enrichment activities, all of our special programs such as clubs and field trips, as well as a host of other achievements that we have been recognized for as a staff and a school.

As a staff and as a community we strive daily to carry out our school mission of excellence. We will continue to show Cotswold Pride daily. We will continue to keep our focus on educating each individual child at their level to prepare them for future success. We will continue to focus daily on increasing our test scores in the areas of Literacy, Math and Science to ensure that our students are college and career ready. We will continue to focus on each child making and exceeding the growth they are projected to make each year. We will continue to focus on closing our achievement gap. We will also continue to keep a focus daily on educating the whole child which is the philosophical foundation of our IB Program.

Your involvement is very important to the success of our school. Well-informed parents who participate in their children's education and school enhance the learning environment for students and educators alike.

As always, please feel free to contact me directly to discuss any questions or concerns you may have regarding our school performance grade. I also welcome your feedback regarding other interests you have in our school.

Thank you for choosing Cotswold IB World School for your child's education and supporting our efforts to provide your child with a high-quality education.
