Mrs. Szczekutek

Hi! My name is Colleen Szczekutek. I attended The University of North Carolina 

at Charlotte where I earned a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I then 

attended National University where I received my master’s degree in teaching. I 

am also a National Board-Certified Teacher.  I have been teaching at Clear Creek Elementary for 12 years! I love being a teacher at Clear Creek because I love being able to see how much our students grow and 

accomplish as they move through each grade level. My favorite book is Ella 

Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine. If I could learn anything if would be how to fly

a plane! I enjoy spending time with my husband, Ian and my two children, Layla

and Gwendolyn. Somethings you may not know about me is, my first language 

was German, I was born in New Jersey, and I love baking! 

Mrs. Mullis

Hi, I'm Kimberly Mullis, a teacher's assistant that specializes in working with exceptional

children. It is my passion to help children grow and learn. 

How long have you been at Clear Creek? 
I started my CMS career in October 1985. I had the pleasure of transferring to Clear Creek

in 2008.


What do you like best about Clear Creek? 
The staff and students at Clear Creek are the best!

What is your favorite food?
I love all food ,except anything that comes out of water.

What is your favorite book?
I love to read. I don't have a specific genre that I like more than others. Reading children's 

books out loud to students at school or my granddaughter at home would be my only

favorite type of reading.


If you could learn anything, what would it be?
I would love to learn how to take better Photographs. What I see when I take a picture is 

defiantly not what the picture looks like when printed. 

In your free time, what do you like to do?
I love to work in my yard.  I grow a garden in the spring.  I plant tomatoes and beans.  I like

picking the tomatoes and beans and canning them for the winter months so that my family and i can enjoy eating them.

Interesting facts-
I have been married to my best friend Gary for 36 years. I have two children that I am very 

proud of . My first child Heather has been married for 11 years, and I have a granddaughter named Penelope! My second child Garren

will be getting married April 10, 2021. I am beyond excited to have a new daughter added to

our growing family.


Mrs. Hefner



Hi! My name is Robin Hefner. I am a kindergarten teacher here at Clear Creek Elementary School. I grew up in the Mint Hill area and went through the CMS schools graduating from Independence High School and UNC-Charlotte. I am married and have twins that are twenty-six years old. I have been teaching for about 29 years. I have taught anywhere from Pre-K (the Bright Beginnings Program) to third grade. I have been at Clear Creek for 19 years now. I have loved Clear Creek since I started subbing here back in the 90’s. This school has always had a staff that puts the students first. They work together as the child’s family to nurture the child as well as teach them the skills they need to learn to be successful.

I’m not sure if I have a favorite food, I enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables along with fresh nuts. However, my husband is a meat eater, so I am not a vegetarian.

My favorite children’s book is Love You Forever by Robert Munsch. Otherwise the book I read most often, and my true favorite is the Bible.

If I could learn anything I would love to learn sign language. In my spare time I enjoy being out side, walking, biking or hiking. If I am in doors I love to scrape book. I am working on my daughter’s wedding album now. I enjoy hanging out with my family when time allows.

Mrs. D'Alessandro

Hi there! I am Mrs. D'Alessandro and I am originally from Long Island, New York and currently live in
Indian Trail, North Carolina. My husband’s name is Frank and we are currently expecting TWIN GIRLS 
this May! We are so excited to start our family with our littlest blessings! Prior to moving to NC I taught 
Pre K! I received my Bachelor Certification in Early Childhood Education General and Special Education
with a concentration area of Spanish from St. Joseph's College of Patchogue, New York and my Masters in
Early Childhood Literacy from Long Island University of Brentwood, New York. Prior to moving to NC and
completing my Masters I taught Pre K! 

How long have you been at Clear Creek?

I have been at Clear Creek since 2012. My first year here, I was a fourth grade teacher! I have taught

third,fourth and fifth grade at Clear Creek! 

What do you like best about Clear Creek?

This is my 9th year at Clear Creek and I can honestly say Clear Creek is unique in that our teachers and

staff are a family! They welcomed me with open arms back in 2012 and it has felt like the right place to 

be on my teaching journey! The teachers and staff love the students they work with and build meaningful

relationships with their students. We work together to help our students learn to their highest potential by

providing differentiated instruction to meet the needs of each individual child. We also have the highest 

expectations of all children and challenge both ourselves and students to achieve those expectations.


What is your favorite food?
I love seafood!

What is your favorite book?
Strega Nona by Tomie dePaola

If you could learn anything, what would it be?
I would love to learn sign language! 

In your free time, what do you like to do?
I enjoy cooking, cleaning and decorating, and most of all spending time with my family! Oh, and of course 
hunting for Rae Dunn items! 

Interesting facts-

1- I have the most loveable Chihuahua named Taco! 
2- Italian was my first language.

3- I speak Italian and Spanish fluently. 


Mrs. Sanderson 


I am originally from Lumberton and currently live in Indian Trail, North Carolina. I have had the opportunity 

to live in many different places and I am glad to be back in my home state. My husband’s name is Jimmy 

and we have one son, Trey. Teaching is my second career. I was a financial analyst before I became an 

educator. I received my Post Bachelor Certification in Early Childhood Education from Mercer University 

and my B.S. in Business Management from the University of Maryland. I continued my education in 

business through graduate courses at Hampton University and Troy University.

 

How long have you been at Clear Creek?

I have been at Clear Creek since 2014. My first year here, I was a second grade teacher and after that I

have served as the K-2 Academic Facilitator.

What do you like best about Clear Creek?

I have had the opportunity to teach at several different elementary schools and can honestly say 

Clear Creek is unique in that our teachers and staff are a family. The teachers and staff love the students

To speak another language fluently.

In your free time, what do you like to do?

I enjoy going to the beach where I can spend time with my family and unplug. I also enjoy exercising and 

have recently started taking a kickboxing class.

Interesting facts-

I lived in Europe for several years and have visited many countries including Germany, France, Belgium,

Luxembourg, and the Netherlands. I have also visited several islands including Bermuda, the Bahamas, 

Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Jamaica, and the Azores.


Ms. Davis 


I earned my Bachelor’s Degree from Wingate University, my masters from Winthrop 

University and am a National Board Certified Teacher. I am in my tenth year of teaching at

 Clear Creek. I love teaching Physical Education at Clear Creek. The staff is supportive 

and the students are excited to participate in PE class as well as extracurricular activities 

that I sponsor such as Walking Club, Physical Activity Club and Stay and Play days.

My favorite food is potatoes. My favorite children’s book is “Winners Never Quit!” 

by Mia Hamm. If I could learn anything, I would love to learn to quilt. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking, gardening and playing pickleball.

I cook on the grill year round and love the outdoors. I am a big tennis fan and enjoy 

attending tennis tournaments locally and abroad.


Mrs. Kirby 


Hello, my name is Connie Kirby. Everyone calls me Ms. Connie. I work in the front office 

here at Clear Creek as the secretary. I have a long history with Clear Creek. My two 

daughters went here and now I have grandchildren that go here. I have been working at 

Clear Creek for 15 years, first as a technology instructor and now in the front office. I have 

loved my career here and feel very lucky to work with such wonderful teachers and staff. 

This is a great school.

Some of my favorite things to do is to spend time with family, especially my grandchildren. 

I also enjoy going for long walks on the beach or hiking in the mountains. I also love to read. Books can make you feel like you are part of the story or they can take you to faraway places without leaving your home. A fun fact not 

many people know about me is, during my college years, I use to act in plays and sang in 

an opera. If I could learn something new, it would be to learn how to play the guitar or a 

harp.


Ms. Jackson

My name is Joy Jackson and I am a teacher assistant. I have been working at Clear Creek 
for almost 20 years. I also was a student here in Kindergarten through 6th grade. I have 
two children that also attended Clear Creek. The staff and students are like family to me.
Everyone here is so kind and caring. 

How long have you been at Clear Creek?
Almost 20 years, but much longer if you count my time as a student.

What do you like best about Clear Creek?
The family atmosphere, it feels like home.

What is your favorite food?
I love seafood!

What is your favorite book?
My favorite book is "The Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein.

If you could learn anything, what would it be?
I would really like to learn to play the saxophone and guitar

In your free time, what do you like to do?
I enjoy working outside in my yard and gardening. I work part time at Home Depot in the 
gardening department.

Interesting facts-
  1. I played the Clarinet in school.
  2. I have an adorable Basset Hound named Charlie. 
  3. I took ballet, tap and jazz dance lessons for 10 years.


Mrs. Rodriguez-Cruz

My name Yadira Rodriguez-Cruz and I am the new music teacher. I'm from Fayetteville, NC, and I'm Puerto Rican. I graduated in May from UNC-Chapel Hill where I studied Music Education and Psychology (#goheels)!


How long have you been at Clear Creek?
This is my first year at Clear Creek - and my first year teaching!

What do you like best about Clear Creek?
I love the students! Their enthusiasm and energy is so great and makes me feel excited to 
teach them.

What is your favorite food?
(Does dessert count??) My favorite food is my mom's chicken fricassee with rice!

What is your favorite book?
I love reading, so I don't really have a favorite book, but I have read the Hunger Games 
series 6 times and am looking forward to reading the newest book. 

If you could learn anything, what would it be?
Sign language.

In your free time, what do you like to do?
I love to bake and play my instruments. 

Interesting facts-
  1. I have seen over 20 local/regional productions of Broadway shows but have never seen a show on Broadway in New York (but I want to!).
  2. My primary instrument is the flute, but I also sing and play the piano. 
  3. I played piccolo in the marching band at UNC.
