Welcome

Dear Beverly Woods Elementary School families,

Welcome to Beverly Woods Elementary School, where our goal is to provide a well-rounded and quality education for all students. You can feel the excitement when you walk into Beverly Woods. We are a family of students, teachers, support staff and parents working together to bring out the best in every child. Our mission is to provide students with a strong academic and character-based foundation which will instill a desire to explore, lead, and serve in a global society.

Beverly Woods Elementary School has been named a Blue Ribbon School, an A+ School and a School of Excellence. We pride ourselves on developing our students' character as well as their academic abilities.

Our school is inclusive in design and our scholars participate in several service-learning opportunities throughout the school year. We offer the rigorous Paideia program as well as a self-contained Extensions Program for students with autism and other exceptionalities. We believe in building community and we offer a variety of opportunities for our stakeholders to become involved.  Our North Star Partners meet weekly with students to build literacy skills. The Beverly Woods Parent-Teacher Association is very active, raising money and volunteering time to build our educational programs.  We also have Character Counts Room Parents who present monthly lessons centered around our character education traits to their children's classes.

I invite you to participate in our school community as often as you can. Please remember to register as a CMS volunteer. All volunteers must register each year and select Beverly Woods Elementary as the site. Please also remember to bring your ID to sign in upon entering the school as we are working diligently to keep our school safe.

Finally, I would like to tell you a little about myself.  I am a Charlotte native and a graduate of CMS - West Mecklenburg High!  I earned my undergraduate degree in education at UNCC and a master’s degree in reading from Winthrop University. I earned my licensure certificate for administration and supervision from Wingate University. In addition, I completed a two-year certification program at the University of Virginia in Turnaround School Education and a fellowship with the Relay Graduate School of Education in New York.

I have more than 27 years of experience in education as an elementary teacher, a reading specialist, a dean of students and a school administrator. I have been the proud principal of Beverly Woods since March 2018.I believe every child deserves the best education available, focusing on rigorous instruction and social-emotional support for everyone. I work closely with staff to ensure that daily learning focuses on the skills students require for success in high school and beyond. I am married and have two children who also graduated from CMS schools. I enjoy spending time with family and am active in my church.

As a principal, a parent and a community member, I am committed to providing the best education possible to each of our students and I believe that every child can be a leader. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns. I can be reached at 980-343-2637 or j.reber@cms.k12.nc.us. I look forward to working with you to ensure that Beverly Woods Elementary continues to offer a challenging, effective educational experience in a safe, happy atmosphere.

Thank you for choosing Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and Beverly Woods Elementary.
