Report an Absence

Report an absence by emailing Feel free to include any necessary documentation in the email.

North Academy of World Languages is asking parents to partner with us in stressing to your child(ren) the importance of attending school regularly and arriving on time, every day.  It is essential that students attend school every day, except when illness or other justifiable cause prevents this from occurring. If your child is ill, please provide a note or supply a doctor’s note to your child’s teacher in order for the absence to be excused. Make-up work is provided for excused absences. You may report an absence by visiting our school website, click on “Report an Absence” or emailing

When your child is absent, you must notify the school by sending us an email. Please keep in mind that according to Charlotte Mecklenburg School Board Policy and the NC Compulsory Attendance Law (N.C.G.S § 115C‑378), parents and guardians are responsible for seeing that their children attend school each day that school is in session.

For students with chronic absenteeism (missing 10% or more of the school year), the grade level counselor will reach out to you in an effort to support your family. If your child’s extended absence is due to a medical reason, please contact your child’s grade level counselor.

Excused Absences:

The following reasons are considered excuses for absences:

Please note that all absences are considered unexcused unless the parent provides a written explanation for the absence. The school may request formal documentation from medical professionals should absences become excessive.

Unexcused Absences:

  • No written excuse or email
  • Missing the bus
  • Car trouble
  • Oversleeping
  • Inclement weather
