Winget Park is excited to provide the B3 experience throughout our school. All students will have the opportunity each week to participate in B3 activities. What is B3? It is a new innovative way of using the Media Center.
Books: Students will check out books each week from the Media Center. We will be exploring how to get the most out of our reading experiences, learning comprehension strategies, research skills and how to facilitate discussions about the books we read.
Brain: B3 will be an opportunity for students to guide their own learning. Students will participate in activities such as "Genius Hour" and "Maker Space".
Genius Hour allows students to learn/research what they are interested in, not just the expected curriculum for their grade level.
Maker Space is a dedicated space and time that enables students to make or create projects of their own design. This type of freeform exploration fosters problem-solving and critical thinking. As the year progresses we will be assembling a "Maker Space" lab. As we stock the lab we will be looking for resources such as recyclables, fabric, simple electrical items, etc. that students can use to spark their creativity.
Body: The connection between movement and learning is powerful! Research has proven that movement not only improves engagement of students but also helps to encourage long term memory. During B3, students will be working on using movement to review key skills as well as learn new information. A portion of the Media Center will be transforming into an Active Brain Lab. Students will work through rotations of specially planned activities where they will be using their bodies to help them to practice key concepts that they are working on in their regular classroom. This is an amazing opportunity that Winget Park students are the first in the district to experience!
