Winding Springs Elementary raised almost $1,500 for Autism Speaks through “Penny Wars.” Autism Speaks is dedicated to increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders.
The organization promotes funding research into the causes, prevention and treatments for autism, and to advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families.
The mission at Winding Springs is to nurture young leaders who are knowledgeable about the contributions that they can make to the global community. That’s why the Winding Springs students were eager to do the fundraiser and support longtime Winding Springs staff member Paula Williams. Williams’ son Ty was diagnosed with autism.
"Supporting Autism Speaks as a way to honor my son, Ty, has always been very special to my friends and family," Williams said. "The wonderful fundraiser that the students and staff of Winding Springs Elementary conducted to raise money for our team meant so much to me. I can't thank them enough. It also served as a perfect opportunity to promote acceptance and understanding of people with autism and raise autism awareness throughout our school community."
The Winding Springs family and all of “Team Ty” raised a total of $7,090.93 for the walk that was held at the end of October.
