Mrs. Lauren Bloom has been the principal of Whitewater Academy for the past two years, and she is thrilled to begin year three with the fabulous Whitewater community! A native of the Charlotte area, Mrs. Bloom attended Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools growing up. After high school in Tennessee, Mrs. Bloom attended The Pennsylvania State University, graduating with a degree in political science. She joined Teach For America and went to Newark, New Jersey to begin her teaching career. After two years teaching third grade in the Newark Public Schools, she joined with four other motivated teachers to open TEAM Academy Charter School, a KIPP school in Newark. After five years of founding, building, and teaching fifth grade at the college prep charter middle school, she moved with her husband to the Charlotte area. Mrs. Bloom taught in Union County and at KIPP Charlotte before completing a principal residency at Sedgefield Elementary School. She and her husband live in Wesley Chapel with their two children, Grayson (7) and Bailey (4).
Mrs. Amanda Huffman has served as a Dean at Whitewater Academy for two years and has joined us this year as Assistant Principal.. Her journey in the field of education began when she moved to North Carolina from Massachusetts to attend Elon University. She graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and began teaching immediately in the Alamance Burlington School District. Mrs. Huffman taught kindergarten through 3rd grade for eight years before moving to Charlotte. Once in Charlotte, Mrs. Huffman joined the Whitewater team as a third grade teacher. The following year she served as a principal resident and completed the school administrator program through the School Executive Leadership Academy (SELA). Mrs. Huffman later graduated from Queens University with a Master's degree in school leadership. As a leader, she has a true love for student learning, the development of the whole child and building a strong school community. She currently lives in Charlotte with her husband and two adorable dogs.
Dean of Students
Mrs. Egleston previously taught grades Kindergarten through 4th grades for ten years, and is now entering her new role as Dean of Students at Whitewater Academy. She grew up in Charlotte and attended Harding University High school. She received a Masters in Adminstration from Queens University and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Winthrop University. She enjoyed attending undergraduate school at UNC-Greensboro where she received her bachelors degree in Elementary Education. She has taught at Druid Hills Academy, Mountain Island Academy and lastly taught 3rd grade at Whitewater last year. She and her husband have a daughter, Peyton who is 3 and loves ballet classes. When Mrs. Egleston isn't at work she enjoys sitting on the deck with family, and going on outings with friends and family.
Mr. Terence Lee Cunningham Jr. joined Whitewater Academy as a Behavior Modification Technician (BMT) in August of the year 2016. He is honored to be a part of Whitewater Academy as a member of the staff and excited to build relationships with the entire student body. Mr. Cunningham was born and raised in Charlotte, NC up until middle school in which he attended schools in Pageland, SC. Upon graduation from high school he was granted an academic and football scholarship from Virginia Union University in Richmond, VA. After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia Union University in 2010 Mr. Cunningham enlisted in the United States Army to serve as an Information Technology Specialist. Mr. Cunningham proudly served his country in Weisbaden, Germany and was honorably discharged from the United States Army after a 4 year contract in 2014. Mr. Cunningham has a dying passion for his family, his job, and his sports. He has love and compassion for the city and the children he comes in contact with all over Charlotte Mecklenburg County Schools. He has been an employee with the Charlotte Mecklenburg County Schools system for 3 years serving Northeast Middle School, Rocky River High School, and Berryhill Academy throughout his employment history. Mr. Cunningham lives in Charlotte, NC with his fiancé and has 3 children, Naraiyah (3), Kylin (3), and Nyomi (will be born in December 2016).
Mrs. Helms is in her first year as a Literacy Facilitator at Whitewater Academy. She joined the Whitewater family in 2010, teaching 2nd and then 3rd grade. She grew up in Dunwoody, GA and Venice, FL, but returned to her family’s NC roots to attend college. She received a Bachelor’s degree in History with a concentration in sociology from Queens College. After college, she remained in Charlotte. With a passion for helping students become their best, she began her career as a teacher’s assistant at Ashley Park Elementary before returning to school to earn her teaching certificate and a Masters in the Art of Teaching from UNC-Charlotte. She then taught 2nd and 3rd grade at Oakhurst Paideia Academy before making the move to Whitewater Academy. She lives with her husband of 7 years, their two children (Worth (5) and Lily (4)), and a very energetic puppy named Dolly. When she is not at Whitewater, you can usually find her spending time with her family on the boat, looking at houses with her husband, or enjoying fellowship with friends.
Mrs. Fisher has been the Literacy Facilitator at Whitewater Academy for the past three years. Before that, she taught Kindergarten here for three years, and Pre-K for seven years at Double Oaks Pre-K in CMS. She is originally from Elyria, Ohio, about 25 miles west of Cleveland. She received her Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio. After college, she moved to Charlotte and began her teaching career. She received her National Board Certification in 2008, and then received her Master's degree in Elementary Education from Wingate University in 2010. She lives with her husband of ten years and two full of personality pups, Paco and Piper. When she is not at Whitewater, you can usually find her in the kitchen trying out a new recipe, taking pictures, or cheering on Cleveland/Ohio sports teams. Go Cavs and Buckeyes!
Heather Lucas is in her 2nd year as the Math Facilitator at Whitewater Academy. As a native of Charlotte, Mrs. Lucas attended and graduated from Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools before pursuing an undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. With a born pas-sion for working with children, she went back to school obtain her teaching license as well as a Masters of Arts in Teaching. Mrs. Lucas taught 4th and 5th grade for 7 years in CMS where her love for the teaching and learning of mathematics blossomed. She has been a Math Facilitator/Coach in our district for the past 5 years and works closely with other math specialists to keep up to date with the latest research and strategies for best practices. Mrs. Lucas lives with her spouse, 2 year old daughter (Rylie) and 6 year old Yorkie (Bubba).
Ms. Brittany Glover is a native of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Ms. Glover graduated with a BA in psychology from Hampton University and received a MS in school counseling from North Carolina A & T State University. Ms. Glover has worked as a school counselor at Whitewater Academy for 2 years and worked as an exceptional children’s teacher prior to attending graduate school. While obtaining her graduate degree, Ms. Glover worked as an academic coordinator at A&T and studied abroad in Belize during the summer. As a National Certified Counselor, Ms. Glover strives to implement ethically sound counseling practices and advocate for students and families. Her passion is to not only serve students but their families and the school staff as a whole.
Cynthia L. Johnson can be described as a school counselor who wants to help children find their purpose in life. She believes that a child has the capability to accomplish their goals with the right guidance and structure. Ms. Johnson grew up in Pensacola, Florida. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Bethune Cookman University and Master of Arts Degree in Counseling from Hampton University. After receiving her Masters Degree Ms. Johnson began working as a school counselor in North Carolina where she continues to help students find their purpose and accomplish their goals.
My name is Angela Davenport and I am the Speech-Language Pathologist at Whitewater Academy. I have lived in several towns across North Carolina, and I currently live in the Steele Creek area of Charlotte. I went to college and received my degrees from UNC-Greensboro. I am married and have 2 children. Nathaniel is 8 years old and is in the third grade at Winget Park Elementary. Allison is almost 5 and she will be starting kindergarten in the fall. I have 2 black cats that always drive us crazy! I LOVE to read! I also enjoy cooking and playing the flute. This is my 7th year at Whitewater Academy. Most students know me even if I don't know them, and I love getting warm greetings from them every day! Thank you for sharing your children with us!
Mrs. Sanoubane has been the English as a Second Language teacher at Whitewater for the past 8 years. Before that, she taught Exceptional Children for 6 years in CMS. She received her Bachelor's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language and Special Education from UNCC. She loves teaching because each day brings an exciting opportunity to make an everlasting impact on her students. She enjoys life with her husband and 2 children, Maysa and Alex.

Mrs. Byers is a third year Special Education Teacher at Whitewater Academy. She graduated from Grand Canyon University with a duel BA in Elementary Education and Special Education. As a Special Education Teacher she is passionate about serving as an advocate for students and acting as a source for tools and strategies that students can access in their learning environment.

Mrs. Gerrald is from Upstate New York. She went to Erie Community College in Upstate New York and got her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education, then she would later open her own business which was an in home daycare center for 5 years. She resumed back to school to get her undergrad in Elementary Education at Medaille College. She worked in a Charter school for 6 months and co-taught math and reading in a 5th grade classroom. Mrs. Gerrald moved to Charlotte and worked for CMS as a Para-Professional for 4 years. Then she decided to return to school to receive her Master's Degree in Special Education. She would then work in Gaston county from 2012-2016 and return back to CMS in 2016. She enjoys reading and working with students.
My name is Susan Wilcox and I am a School Psychologist that serve both Whitewater Academy and Whitewater Middle Schools. I grew up in Chagrin Falls Ohio, which is a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio. I obtained a Bachelor's degree in Social Work from Eastern Michigan University. I then obtained a Masters of Education with a Specialty Certification as a School Psychologist in May 1983. I married my husband in May 1985 and moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in August 1986. I have worked at several different Elementary Schools from August 1986 and now in an itinerant School Psychologist position serving Whitewater Academy and Whitewater Middle since 2009. I love working with the students, teachers and parents at both schools.

My name is Daniel Key and I am the new Physical Education Teacher at Whitewater Academy. I am very excited to be a part of the Whitewater family and have greatly enjoyed the transition thus far. I grew up in the Asheville, NC area and received my Education degree from Appalachian State University. After college, I taught both Special Education and Physical Education in the Asheville area for four years. Whitewater is my first teaching position in Charlotte and I look forward to getting to know you, your children, and your city better!
Visual Arts Teacher
Mrs. Karah Morton has been with Whitewater Academy for 2 years as our Visual Arts Teacher. She has her Masters Degree in Special Education and her Bachelors Degree in Arts Education. She came to us after teaching 2 years at Hidden Valley Elementary here in Charlotte, working as an EC Specialist for a semester in Fez, Morocco, a semester teaching EC in Lynchburg, VA, 1 year teaching EC Self-Contained in Statesville, NC, teaching Computer Connectivity for 1 year in Thunder Bay, Ontario and 5 years teaching Visual Arts in Greensboro NC. Mrs. Morton loves to travel, learning new skills in painting and pottery, gardening, trying new recipes, live theater and concerts, museums of all kinds, and exploring the great outdoors with her husband Atticus and their two-year-old fur-baby Roman. Her motto is "Every moment is a teaching moment; never be too old or too proud to learn something new."
Hello my name is Jacob Masters and I am the General Music Teacher at Whitewater Academy. Born and raised in West Virginia, I grew up in a very rural environment. I spent a lot of time growing up in the Boy Scouts, devoting a lot of my time to outdoor recreation and community service projects. After graduating high school, I enrolled at Glenville State College where I studied Music Education. During my time there I was involved with a number of ensembles and studied a variety of music and instruments. After graduating in the fall of 2014 I was offered a chance to move to Charlotte by a family member. Once I moved to Charlotte in January of 2015 I quickly found work as a substitute teacher here at Whitewater Academy, which luckily turned into a full time position. I am happy I moved to Charlotte and happy to have found such a great community to work for. As always I appreciate all your support, and the opportunity to work with your students.
Technology Associate/Computer Teacher
My name is Wanda Lindley and I am the Technology Associate/Teacher here at Whitewater Academy. Before coming to CMS I volunteered at Mallard Creek Elementary for 9 years and was a stay at home mom. I have worked for CMS for almost 20 years, the last 6 years here at Whitewater. I attended several colleges including (Rowan Technical Institute), CPCC for technology certifications, and continuing Professional Development in CMS. I have over 17 years' experience in network and workstation/device management. I am married and have two grown children, and now I am blessed with a wonderful grandson. I love camping, reading and the beach!
Physical Education Teacher
Mr. Gibson is from the small town of LeFlore, Oklahoma (Population: 190). He graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2010 with a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education. While at Oklahoma State he served as a student manager for the softball team. Upon graduating he taught physical education at South Haven Public Schools in South Haven, Kansas where he also served as the head coach of the girls' varsity basketball team. After one year at South Haven Mr. Gibson attended graduate school at the University of Louisiana at Monroe where he completed his Master's Degree in Exercise Science while serving as a Graduate Assistant for the women's basketball team. During graduate school he also completed a summer internship with USA Softball. In 2014 Mr. Gibson moved to the Carolinas to take a position as the Director of Women's Basketball Operations at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. After working with the Paladins basketball program for two seasons he made his return to teaching here at Whitewater Academy.
Learning Lab Teacher
Mr. Seagle is one of the Technology teachers at Whitewater Academy. He works in the Learning Lab and uses Chromebooks and IPads to implement project based learning with all students at Whitewater Academy. He is from Charlotte, NC and has lived in the area for his entire life. He attended UNC Charlotte and obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. Before coming to Whitewater Academy he taught 3rd grade for several years. Outside of school, he likes to read and spend time with his wife.
