West Charlotte was built in 1938 and is one of Charlotte's oldest public schools that has a rich history of producing widely noted public officials, athletes, and business leaders.
Additionally, West Charlotte offers the following nine (9) Advanced Placement courses: English, Calculus, Statistics, U.S. History, U.S. Government and Law, Human Geography and Art. Further offerings occur for international competition in the International Baccalaureate Program which provides the opportunity for highly motivated, college-bound students to engage academic rigorous, well-rounded educational program that promotes and encourages academic competitiveness as well as an appreciation of and sensitivity to different cultures, attitudes and values.
On April 2005, West Charlotte was authorized as an International Baccalaureate World School and has successfully offered courses under the IBO programme to those scholars that seek the academic rigor and cultural awareness of the international programme.
Although academics reigns supreme in the hallowed halls of West Charlotte, we offer many opportunities for our students to diversify their academic experience. These opportunities include participation in the following sports: football, volleyball, girls' tennis, girls' golf, cross country, boys' soccer, boys' and girls' basketball, swimming, wrestling, indoor track,softball, baseball, girls' soccer, boys' golf, boys' tennis, and outdoor track.
There are a myriad of clubs offered to our students. Among our offerings are National Honor Society, Key Club, Beta Club, National Technical Honor Society, Order of the Lions, IB Council, FBLA, SAVE, HOSA, Chess, Band, Culinary Arts, Cosmetology, Yearbook, NAACP, Lions for Christ, and the International Club.
