School Counselors are trained and certified in counseling with unique qualifications and skills to address students’ academic, personal/social, and career development needs through the following:

  • Individual  Counseling

  • Group Counseling

  • Classroom Lessons

  • Teacher/Parent consultations

  • Liaison between families and community resources

  • 504 Coordinator

  • Multi-tiered System of Support Behavior (MTSS-B)

  • Liaison McKinney-Vento services

  • Attendance Intervention

  • Course planning for Middle School and beyond

Parents and families are essential partners in promoting good attendance because they have the bottom-line responsibility for making sure their children get to school every day. Just as parents should focus on how their children are performing academically, they have a responsibility to set expectations for good attendance

Sterling Elementary School will improve student attendance by:  

  • Reducing the number of students arriving late for class by 15%.  

  • Decreasing the number of students who miss five or more days of school during Fall Semester by 15%.  

  • Decreasing the number of students who miss 10 or more days during the school year by 25%.

  • Increasing parental awareness about the importance of school attendance, arriving on-time, and the resources/supports available.
