  • South Meck had over $7 million scholarship dollars awarded for our 2011-2012 seniors
  • 2 National Merit Scholars – of the four selected in the South Region our two made it to become Merit Scholarship Recipients
  • 16 CMS Scholars

  • 1 Governor’s School Candidate
  • 1 Teaching Fellow
  • Several South Meck teachers and counselors hold National Board Certification –
    with many more working towards that certification this year - 32 hold advanced degrees and 73% have more than four (4) years of teaching experience (our faculty averages 12 years of teaching experience)
  • One of seven (7) CMS High Schools exceeding state and national SAT scores
  • Academic gains on 100% of EOC tests over last year by up to 15.8%
  • VOCATS average composite score 82.2% passed
  • 98.5% of our 2008 graduates earned a college prep diploma
  • 24.9% added college tech prep to college prep
  • 5 National Merit Commended Students
  • SOMECKA placed 3rd Place overall state-wide
         Received Scholastic Press Association ALL CAROLINA award
         Received a Gold Medal and four (4) All Columbian honors from
           the 1st place Columbia Scholastic Press Association  - a NATIONAL ranking 
  • Our Band’s Symphonic and Wind Ensembles received superior ratings in all competitions
  • Our Choral department received superior ratings at state competitions: 
          Three Students went to Mars Hill
          Three choirs received superiors
          Chamber singers performed for the second year at the LongView
              Estates and for the 15th year at the Biltmore Estate
  • Our Theater Department received Best Show and Best Ensemble, and qualified and performed for the state at the NCTC.  We also received many honors for our actors and our Theater Director won best director honors!
  • Excellent ratings in all Orchestra competitions
  • One individual state champion athlete – in high jump
  • Four team state qualifiers:  Soccer, Wrestling, Track and Swimming – with 25 qualifiers
  • Five Varsity teams in the top 5 in the conference:  men’s track, men’s soccer, volleyball, men’s cross country, and women’s cross country, wrestling tied for third place, and swimming (men’s and women’s BOTH) tied for third
  • One individual conference champion for wrestling
  • Six all conference athletes for wrestling, women’s’ basketball, and men’s basketball
  • AND…let’s not forget our football team. They qualified for the state football tournament for the first time in 13 years – YAY what a season!!
