Rocky River Raven Code (Dress Code)

Respect, Responsibility, Honor, & Service


Raven Code: Students at Rocky River High School will maintain and uphold personal attire and grooming standards that promote safe, healthy, and acceptable values and are not disruptive to the educational environment. This includes student clothing that materially and substantially disrupts classes or other school activities, including but not limited to gang articles of clothing. Students that do not adhere to the expectations of administration and CMS policies will be required to change and multiple offenses will result in discipline consequences.

Shirts

  • No spaghetti straps, racer-backs, off-the-shoulder tops, mesh tops, tube tops or halter tops are allowed. Shirts/Tops must cover front and back with a 3-finger width measurement.

  • No low cut shirts. Absolutely NO CLEAVAGE is to be exposed.   Boys cannot wear tank tops.

  • No see-through clothing. No undergarments are to be visible including bra straps and underwear. Shirts should adequately cover shoulders and back.

  • No midriffs should show; shirts must be longer than the waistline of skirts, shorts, or pants.

  • Shirts must be free of holes unless undershirt is worn to cover chest, stomach, back, and underarm areas. 

  • All clothing with any unauthorized group symbols, profanity, gestures/ or signs are prohibited.  (This includes drugs, tobacco, alcohol, nude/provocative pictures)

Pants/Shorts/Skirts/Dresses

  • Pants and shorts must fit and be worn at the waist. (No skinny pants that cannot be worn at the waist). Pants should be free of holes above the knee and no underwear is to be exposed.  Oversized pants must be worn with a belt at the waist.

  • Skirts / Dresses made of spandex material will be prohibited.

  • Leggings, jeggings, yoga pants and/or spandex material clothing may ONLY be worn with an appropriate shirt that reaches the mid-thigh area. (Jackets or sweaters wrapped around the waist will not be considered proper coverage).

  • Shorts, skirts, and dresses cannot be higher than 3" above the knee in the front and back.  (The fingertip rule will not apply)               

  • No pajamas are to be worn during the school day including early release days.  Athletic wear can be worn as long as it adheres to the dress code policy. ​ Students are expected to return to school attire after gym class.

 Other Items

  • All hats, beanies, skull caps, visors, hoods or any other head-gear may not be worn in the building (the only headgear exemption is for religious ceremony attire).

  • No do-rags, bandanas, or head scarves are to be worn in the building

  • No shades are to be worn in the building

  • Pajamas and slippers are prohibited. Any undergarment-related clothing (“wife-beaters”) is not permitted.

  • Athletic slides, dress slides, or flip flops (without a strap around the heel) are prohibited from being worn at any time.

  • Headphones and earbuds are prohibited from being worn in the building

  • Removing a sweater or jacket “cover up” during the school day at any time is not appropriate, if and when the remaining clothing violates the dress code.

Consequences

1st - 3rd Offense - Change or correct Attire, Admin Conference, Documentation, & Parent Contact (progressively)

3rd Offense - 1 day ISS

4th Offense - 2 days OSS
