Ravens in the News: National Recognition

National Gold Metal and American Visions Award

David won a National Scholastics Gold Medal and the American Visions award. The American Visions award means that David's piece was chosen as the best piece from the mid-Carolina region this year, essentially a best in show CMS is sending David and Ms. Eller, along with the other national winners from CMS, their teachers, and the visual arts curriculum specialist, to New York June 10-12 to accept the award at Carnegie Hall!

David and his work will be featured in multiple national publications, and his work will be exhibited in the traveling Scholastics show for the next 2 years.

This is a huge honor for David, the Visual Arts program, and Rocky River. WBTV documented student achievement, featuring David in an article! For more information, visit:

National Track Champion

Rocky River High School Freshman, Kenya Livingston is the Nationals High Jump champion! Her jump of 5 feet 7 1/4 inches tied for the national record. Kenya competed, March 12-14, in New York, in the Nationals Indoor Track and Field meet.

Also, in the Nationals meet, 9th grader, Mariah Atwater, finished 11th in the Freshman 400.

The Rocky River 4x4 Relay team came in 23rd in their competition. Kenya and Mariah are part of the 4x4 relay team.

Several interesting facts about this news: 1) Kenya and Mariah are just freshman. They have 3 more years of high school competition ahead of them!, 2) This is the first time that RRH has competed in a National track event. It is the first time RRH has had a National track champion!

Peer Mediation at the Rock!  New Program at RRHS Led by National Honor Society  Peer mediation is a program where students facilitate resolving disputes between other students.  Peer mediators do not “make decisions” but rather work towards a win-win solution for both sides in order to avoid future conflict.  The disputants must sign a contract saying they agree to abide by the terms.  Students can complete a referral form from the Peer Mediation Box located in Student Services.
