National Library Month
In honor of National Library Month, on April 11th and 12th, sixteen Ridge Road students traveled across the parking lot to Highland Elementary to read aloud to students during their Media Center time. We read a variety of books, including historical fiction, picture books, and multicultural retellings of classic fairy tales. Two sixth graders and one eigth grader even read bilingual picture books to the students. It was a fun celebration of reading for all! Be sure to celebrate National Library Month at your local library!

Battle of the Books
Congratulations to our Battle of the Books team who came in 3rd at the regional competition at Lake Norman Charter on Friday! The students on the team tried their very best and showed their Raven pride to all teams competing. The team has worked together since October to compare to compete in this quiz-style competition.

National No Name Calling Week
Last month students and staff celebrated National No Name Calling Week. Throughout the week students participated in various activities focused on Bully Prevention. Teachers were provided with lessons surrounding this topic for their class warm ups. Students also signed a pledge against name calling. The signed pledge posters are posted down the main hall as a constant reminder of our goal.
One of the highlights of the week involved the Dance Against Name Calling. The 1st Semester Dance students participated in a "Flash Mob" for National No Name Calling Week. This gave the students and opportunity to be creative and artistic as well as come together as one unit to fight a battle that the nation is facing "bullying".
We asked everyone to wear black on Wednesday to "Black Out Name Calling". We wanted the students to be serious about their pledge and have a clear understanding of the harm that bullying causes. Our goal is for our students to make a conscious effort to be change agents.

On November 17, 2011 Ridge Road Middle School received a $500 check from Exxon through the Exxon Mobile Grant.

Ridge Road Middle School is excited about a recent laptop donation. An area community business Highland Creek BP Gas Station recently donated a brand new HP laptop to Ridge Road. The BP Gas Station is located on the corner of Prosperity Church Rd & Ridge Road. The President, Mr. Prakash Mehta wanted to give the school an item that would be beneficial to the education of students. Mr. Mehta believes that education is important and wanted to show his support. On Tuesday, April 13th, Principal Tanner and some of her students graciously accepted this wonderful gift from Mr. Mehta.
