Dear Rama Road Families and Visitors,
As summer days have flown by, I have been reflecting on all of the successes we once again experienced at Rama Road last year with an intensive focus on student achievement and high levels of learning at the center of all we do each day at RRES. I look forward to having students, teachers and families back in the building very soon.
Amid the busyness of summer and attempting some vacation time came the passing of our teammate and friend, Bridgette McLemore. As many of you know, she was such an energetic and amazing teacher. It was evident at the filled church and teachers and families in attendance at her memorial service what an incredible impact her journey and the story of her life had on so many. I was so proud to sit among the many members of the Rama family (current & former) that day as we came together to console one another and give Mrs. McLemore the loving send-off she so deserved.
The stories of this summer have helped me prepare for the upcoming year. Student success at Rama Road is my mission. Our students' future is my mission. Our teachers' positive impact on student achievement is my mission. And I am determined that my mission will be accomplished. To this end, it is critical that we share a common purpose for the work we do and that our community remains passionate about student achievement at the highest levels. Foundational to everything we do this year will be getting to know our students' stories; respecting their stories and teaching them to be confident as experts in their stories. How will we begin? By getting to know one another's stories just a little bit better.
(Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) continue to be an integral part of the Rama Road daily curriculum focus for all of our students in grades PreK-5. At Rama Road, we pride ourselves on being the first school with both a Science lab and an Innovations Lab where EVERY student has STEM experiences every week. (A few magnet schools have even borrowed this idea!) From a weekly STEM Club for 1st & 2nd Graders in partnership with Discovery Place to daily science interactions in multiple labs during special area class rotations, your children simply don't have to leave their neighborhood school to find more STEM focus anywhere in CMS or in any local charter school. In addition to the amazing work teachers do differentiating instruction every day, we are confident that the STEM problem based experiences we offer have been integral to 93% of our students exceeding high growth over the past three years.
At the end of last year, RRES teacher leaders interviewed rigorously to recommend teachers and teammates with a similar story to ours of dedication and intentional teaching for students. We are excited that they have chosen to be a part of the RRES family to help us continue this great work. When you have the opportunity, please be sure to welcome the following new teachers to Rama Road & to their new grade level teams:
Tara Easton – Kindergarten Teacher
MaryAnn Condon – 5th Grade Teacher
Mrs. Caroline Smith – 1st Grade Teacher
Mrs. Hamilton – moved to 3rd Grade
Mrs. Faber – Moved to 1st Grade
Mrs. Bozeman – Moved to 2nd Grade
Welcome back Mrs. Chatt, Mrs. Cohen, Mrs. Kean and Mrs. Pritchett as Tutors!
As we prepare for the first day of school on August 28th, we want to invite you to attend our annual Open House & Ice Cream Social on Thursday, August 24th from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. This is a terrific opportunity for students to meet their teachers and have a chance to catch up with friends. Please watch the mail for class placement letters the week of August 14th. We look forward to having you join us!
Finally, thank you for your commitment to our school and entrusting our team with the education of your children. Essential to the work we do here at Rama is a growth mindset and embracing the concept that our diversity is our greatest strength as a school community. No matter what path brings you to our front door, ALL ARE WELCOME HERE at Rama Road.
If your child is not yet enrolled at Rama Road, we invite you to stop by and take a tour. You will not be disappointed. We will see you soon!
Patricia M. Denny, Principal
