Health and PE

The Providence High School Health and Physical Education program is designed to provide a positive learning experience for everyone. The physical education program will focus on physical fitness, skill development in various individual and team sports, and most importantly, active participation. The health education program will focus on healthful living choices related to fitness behaviors, nutrition, drugs, human sexuality, relationships, and coping with grief and death.


Lifetime Sports and Fitness

-- Required for graduation -- Focus is on lifetime sports - Tennis, Archery, Badminton, Table Tennis, Golf, Bowling, Volleyball, Fitness

9th Grade Physical Education

-- Required for graduation -- Focus is on team sports -- Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Soccer, Frisbee, Softball, Fitness.

Team Sports

-- Elective -- Focus is on refinement of sport skills and complex defensive and offensive strategies

Individual and Dual Sports

-- Elective -- Focus is on refinement of sport skills and defensive and offensive strategies

Physical Conditioning I, II, III

-- Elective - Develop and refine a physical conditioning program that includes the five fitness components

Aerobics I, II, III

- Elective -- Improve cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and endurance, and flexibility through a variety of activities such as step aerobics, running/walking, and rope jumping

Swimming, Lifeguard Training, Water Aerobics

- Elective -- Basic swimming skills, water safety, and confidence when participating in water related activities

Sports Medicine I, II, III

-- Elective -- Explore and analyze the knowledge of anatomy, Physiology relevant to sports activities. Students will learn how to prevent and rehabilitate injuries, give CPR, administer First Aid, and tape injuries.



9th grade Health

-- Required for graduation -- Explore healthful living choices related to fitness behaviors, coping/stress management, nutrition, relationships, and drugs and alcohol.

Personal Health Issues

-- Required for graduation -- Development of skills related to adult and family responsibilities: personal development, human sexuality, avoidance of drug abuse, coping with grief death and conflict resolution.
