It is with great pride and honor that I welcome you to the 2017-2018 school year. My name is William Campbell and I have the great pleasure of leading the amazing staff and students at Piney Grove Elementary. I come to Piney Grove after spending the last two and half years as the assistant principal at Nations Ford Elementary. My educational journey began nearly 18 years ago when I stepped into a kindergarten classroom as a high school senior and found my calling. I attended undergraduate school at St. Andrews University located in Laurinburg, NC and completed my student teaching at Covington Street Elementary. After graduating, I moved back to my hometown in Marianna, FL and began my teaching career in the neighboring town of Cottondale. At Cottondale Elementary, I taught special education for third through fifth grade and then moved to teach second grade. I then moved out west to California and worked on my master's degree at California State Polytechnic University (Cal Poly for short) where I spent time researching, designing, and piloting a sight word recognition program for first graders at an elementary school located outside of Los Angeles. I was then selected as a Teach for America corps member to come back to the east coast and was privileged to teach second grade at Statesville Road Elementary here in Charlotte. After completing the corps experience, I was named one of the founding members of the Teach for America-South Carolina region where I managed 15 teachers across four different school districts. I then heard about Project LIFT and came back to Charlotte to work at Bruns Academy as a third grade math and science teacher before being promoted to Math Facilitator.
It is my absolute honor to serve the Piney Grove Community. We have an amazing staff that will provide a world class education to your child. We look forward to partnering with you this year as we "Align our STARS" to becoming a premier neighborhood school!
