Home Reading Helper

What families need to support children's language and literacy development at home.

Read Charlotte recently launched the Home Reading Helper

The site was especially developed for Charlotte-Mecklenburg parents and guardians to find free, easy-to-use resources all in one place to help their children learn to read at home.

"We know it is the combination of what happens at school and at home that grows a proficient reader," said Munro Richardson, Read Charlotte executive director.

Home Reading Helper spans pre-kindergarten through third grade, offering age-based and skill-based easy-to-use information, videos, games, home activities and more. With the tagline, Your Child's Success Starts With You, it aims to give busy parents exactly what they need to boost reading skills at home, as well as resources for families who might be unsure of where to turn if they have a struggling reader. Plus, the site is enabled with Google's machine language translation abilities so that the website's text and video subtitles can be translated easily into nearly 100 additional languages.
