Dr. Greene

Hello Oakhurst STEAM Academy families. I am extremely proud to lead this wonderful school and to call myself an Oakhurst Rocket! This year marks my 8th full year as a principal and my 16th in education. I began this journey as a high school English teacher. I have also worked in the district central office, and taught at the college level before becoming an elementary school principal. I began the principalship as interim principal at First Ward Elementary. I spent five years as principal at Hidden Valley Elementary before helping to reopen Oakhurst STEAM Academy. I have a BA in English and MA in English Education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, my principal licensure from Western Carolina University, and an Ed.D. from Wingate University. I have served on many committees and task forces and most recently served on the Opportunity Task Force, a joint City/County Task Force aimed at making recommendations to improve economic mobility in Charlotte.  In my spare time I am an avid reader, I love to cook and garden, and take long walks with my dog.

Jill Smith

My name is Jill Smith and I am excited to have been a part of Oakhurst STEAM Academy since its reopening in August of 2015 first as Dean of Students and now as Assistant Principal.  I am originally from Ohio (Go Browns!) and moved to Charlotte to begin my teaching career.  I taught many years as a 7th grade math teacher and was a professional development facilitator at a K-8 school in CMS. I am married and am a parent to a fur-baby.  I am looking forward to another great year at Oakhurst!

Hello Oakhurst STEAM,

I am honored to have been selected as the new Dean of Students here at Oakhurst STEAM Academy!  The Oakhurst family and community has an outstanding reputation of hard work and excellence.  I am excited to now be a member of the ROCKET Leadership Squad. I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself.  I am originally from Sumter, SC.  I have been in Charlotte since 1998 when I moved from Columbia, SC to get married and start my family.  I've been married to my husband, Eric, for 18 years.  We have a 12-year-old boy named EJ who is currently in 7th Grade and a 10-year-old boy named Evan who is in 5th grade.  In my spare time between work and being a mommy, I enjoy singing, exercising, being with family, and travelling mountains or to the beach.  My boys both play football, basketball, and baseball so they keep my husband and I pretty busy.  I have always loved school.  I have been a public educator for 21 years.  I started teaching music in South Carolina before moving here to teach middle school at Albemarle Road Middle and I helped open Hopewell High School-where I was given the opportunity to write the school's Alma Mater.  I have taught every grade level from K-12 and I have had many amazing opportunities both in CMS and outside of CMS that have all helped grow into the learning and instructional leader I am today.I received my undergraduate degree in Music Education from South Carolina State University with a K-12 Choral/Vocal Music Certification.  I studied post-grad at University of South Carolina (Go GAMECOCKS!) and finished my Master's Degree in Educational Leadership and Curriculum/Supervision at UNC-Charlotte.  Since the day I was named Dean of Students (I received the offer on my BIRTHDAY!), everyone from parents, to teachers, to students have been so welcoming.  Excitement is in the air! I truly believe by working together as a team, Oakhurst will be one of the best schools in CMS.

Rockets don't fly-WE SOAR!

HI! I am so excited to be beginning my third year at Oakhurst STEAM Academy as literacy facilitator! This will be my 12th year in education. I have taught 1st, 3rd, and 5th, but have really enjoyed being a facilitator over the past 5 years. I am originally from Ohio, and will always be a Buckeye at heart! I have two boys and my family loves all that Charlotte has to offer. You can often find us at a park on the weekend or at a festival! My door is always open for any of your literacy needs.

Hello!  When I am not encouraging problem solving skills and mathematical reasoning at Oakhurst, I am a wife and mom too.  My daughter is a very curious and talkative 2 year old. I am originally from Pennsylvania, but I have lived in Charlotte for 14 years now.  Whether it is experiencing outings in Charlotte or relaxing at the beach, I really enjoy spending time with my family.  I also love cheering on the 6 time Super Bowl champs, Pittsburgh Steelers!!!
