Good evening Oakhurst STEAM families and staff,

This is Principal Blue with our reminders for the week-

We had an opportunity to experience various forms of learning this week. Our fifth grade students attended a symphony at Ovens Auditorium on Wednesday. All of our students participated in a performance by Silver Trout on Thursday. Timmy and Susanna Abell entertained us with a selection of folk songs related to our standards. Ask your children about these experiences.

Many students have overdue or missing library books at home. Please help us by having your child to look for books at home and return them to the school. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

We will have an Early Release Day on Wednesday, March 13th. School will end at 1:15pm. Students will take their normal mode of transportation home.

Parents are invited to Reading Night on Thursday, March 14th from 6:00- 7:00 pm. This is a wonderful chance to engage in reading with various games and other activities.

PTA General Body meeting will be held on March 21st at 6:00 pm in the Media Center.

Quick Reminder:

We are partnering with Toys and Company through March 9th. We will receive 20% back from any purchases made at the store. Thanks again for your support.

Our 5th grade students will visit Outer Banks March 25th-26th. Teachers will host a parent information night to share information soon.

Our PTA will host a Movie Night on March 29th from 6:00-8:00 pm.

Due to the enormous numbers of students and staff experiencing colds and the flu, we are strongly encouraging parents to monitor the health of your children and keep them home if they are sick or have a high temperature. This definitely impacts the learning environment as the germs are spreading and infecting others.

This concludes my reminders for the week.

Have a relaxing weekend!

I wanted to let you know we are aware of a video being distributed over social media of a girl named MoMo that can be disturbing and frightening to children. Students may be viewing this video at home and discussing it with their friends. We are being vigilant to make sure students are not viewing these images or discussing these videos with their peers at school. Please take time to research this and address it with your child as you see fit. Our staff suggests discussing with your students why they should not view the video. Please be alert at all times about the content and social media channels students have access to and use. Reach out to let me know if you feel your child may need support.

This week we celebrated Read Across America Week. Tomorrow, Target Stores across Mecklenburg County will recognize Dr. Seuss Day with various reading activities. Check out individual stores for times.

Dates for next week:

McDonald's Spirit Night March 6th

Silver Trout Performance at the school- March 7th

Early Release Day- March 13th. Students will be released at 1:15 pm
