Good evening Oakhurst STEAM families and staff,

This is Principal Blue with our reminders for the week:

Next week, students in grades 3 – 5 will be taking the NC Check-In assessments in reading and/or math. This is a formative assessment that will give students and teachers data on how students are progressing at grade level standards. This assessment will be given in their classroom and will be done 3 times this year.

The second quarter began October 29th. Thank you to all of you who were able to conference with teachers this month. If you have not met with us, it's not too late. Please reach out to your child's teacher to schedule a conference. Report cards will be sent home today. Please review it with your child. Return the signed parent signature card.

During the month of November, our students are focusing on citizenship. This means being informed, caring, and responsible people. We will collect school supplies for the victims of Hurricane Florence and send them to an elementary school. Please support our efforts by donating an item. The HOUSE that collects the most items will win a popcorn party.

Save the date: November 15th- Thanksgiving Lunch in the cafeteria during your child's lunch times. The cost is $4.00 a plate. Please make sure you sign in in the front office. November 20th- EPIC BUILD Showcase- This is an opportunity for children to demonstrate their learning and explain their final coding project. Parents and guardians are invited to attend. The times are 9:30-10:30 am.

We will be out of school November 21st through 23rd for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Be safe as you travel to visit family and friends.

This concludes my updates for this week. Enjoy your weekend!

Good afternoon Oakhurst STEAM families and staff,

This is Principal Blue with our reminders for the week:

The tragedy at one of our high schools this week made us all slow down and reflect on our procedures to make sure that we are doing everything WE can to keep staff and students safe. Needless to say, it takes all of us. Please continue to communicate with us so we can make sure we are doing everything we can to be proactive.

The second quarter began October 29th. Thank you to all of you who were able to conference with teachers this month. If you have not met with us, it's not too late. Please reach out to your child's teacher to schedule a conference. Report Cards will be sent home on Friday, Nov. 9th.

The HOUSE that collects the most items will win a popcorn party.

Lastly, this week our teachers will have an opportunity to plan off campus with their colleagues. This time is important as it gives us uninterrupted time to analyze student progress and plan lessons and common assessments based on that data. To assist us with this process- the special teachers will work with a grade level each day, incorporating reading, writing, and math in their special areas. The schedule is as follows: Monday- 5th grade students will rotate through special classes. Tuesday- 4th, Wednesday -3rd, Thursday- 2nd, Friday- 1st, and on Tuesday- Kindergarten students will rotate through special classes. Book bags are not needed on the day your grade level has special classes.

This concludes my updates for this week. Enjoy your Sunday!
