Oakdale Uniform Policy

Philosophy

At Oakdale Elementary we want to create the best learning environment possible for our scholars in order to promote unity, tolerance, and civility. Oakdale scholars are expected to wear the school uniform EVERY Monday-Thursday. We will permit dress down days on Fridays for scholars who have complied with the policy Monday-Thursday. The Uniform Policy will be followed, except in instances where a student has been exempted for field trips only.

Oakdale Academy Uniform Expectations (K- 5th grade)

Pants and Skirts: Long pants, walking shorts, skirts, skorts, and jumpers.

• Color: Navy blue or khaki
• Waistband must be fitted or a belt must be worn
• Baggy or low riding pants NOT ALLOWED
• Bicycle shorts only permitted under skirts or jumpers
• No Jeans (except Fridays)
• No short-shorts or short-skirts (Shorts and skirts must be longer than child’s fingertips)

Shirts: Long and short sleeve polo style shirts or button downs

• Color: Navy blue, light blue, or white (we strongly advise parents against white shirts as they are difficult to keep clean)

Hats: Only permitted during cold weather months (to be worn outside ONLY)

****Please note that hoodies ARE NOT allowed to be worn in the school building. They have proven to be a distraction in the classroom. Parents are asked to plan accordingly.

Shoes: Must be have a strap- ABSOLUTELY NO FLIP FLOPS or SLIDES (EVEN ON FRIDAYS)

Free dress days are every Friday starting August 31, 2018.

Please note that the following are examples of inappropriate attire and are not permitted on free dress days: flip flops, short-shorts/skirts, blouses or shirts exposing midriff, spaghetti straps, see-through shirts/pants, tank tops, cut or ripped clothing of any kind and low riding or baggy pants/shorts/skirts.

By signing the Uniform Policy Form (to be sent home the first day of school) you are agreeing to send your child in uniform every Monday-Thursday and appropriately dressed on Fridays. Please note, if your child comes to school out of uniform they will be given the chance to call you to bring them a uniform. ANY STUDENT WHO DOES NOT ADHERE TO THE UNIFORM POLICY WILL BE REQUIRED TO CALL HOME FOR A CHANGE OF CLOTHES. IF A SCHOLAR CONTINUES TO REPORT OUT OF UNIFORM THEY MAY RECEIVE A REFERRAL FOR INSUBORDINATION. IF YOU NEED UNIFORM ASSISTANCE PLEASE CONTACT THE SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER, BEVELYN SHERRILL.
