The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is the nation's premier organization recognizing outstanding middle level who demonstrate excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. NJHS is proudly sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). The NASSP-the preeminent organization and national voice for middle level and high school leaders-also sponsors the National Association of Student Councils (NASC), which promotes and provides leadership development opportunities to prepare and empower students to serve their schools and communities.

All active NJHS members are expected to volunteer their time and participation in service projects, both at Northeast Middle (in NJHS activities) and also in the community. Members should try to log 20 hours for the school year, and are expected to keep track of their service hours for the school year. NJHS Service Hours Log Sheet link is where you will log your time. If you lose or need a a new copy, print one for yourself. Only you are responsible for keeping track of your service hours.
Frequently Asked Questions about the Induction Ceremony
When do I need to arrive?
The ceremony takes place on Monday, February 5, 2018.
Will there be a rehearsal?
There will be two rehearsals. We will meet on Friday, January 26th after school and Friday, February 2nd to assign seats and practice the ceremony procedures. Please contact Ms. Hill if you will miss either of these rehearsals.
Where should I go when I arrive for the ceremony?
Go to the cafeteria to prepare for the ceremony.
Where do I sit?
At our rehearsal, you will be assigned a seat in alphabetical order. That is how your name will be called when you go onto the stage to get your certificate, and how you will enter, sit in, and exit the auditorium. You MUST REMEMBER who is sitting on either side of you!
How long is the ceremony?
The ceremony is approximately 30 minutes to 45 minutes. There will be refreshments served after the ceremony to celebrate.
Can I participate if my parents or family aren't able to attend?
What should I wear?
This is a formal occasion that requires you to look neat and professional, just like if you were performing in a concert.
- Girls' Attire: dresses, skirts, dress slacks, shoes, dressy sandals, dressy boots. No flipflops, no UGGs, no jeans, no yoga pants. Follow dress code rules for school pertaining to length of skirts, tank tops, etc.
- Boys' Attire: collared shirts -- dress or polo, khaki-type pants or dress pants; ties are optional, but encouraged. No t-shirts, no shorts, no jeans, no sweatpants. Shoes or sneakers that have laces must be tied.
What kind of behavior is expected at the ceremony?
You are representing the entire school to your teachers, families, and the administration of our school district. We expect you to behave in a way that makes us proud. Here are some special considerations:
- DO NOT use your cell phone during the ceremony.
- DO NOT chew gum.
- NO excessive talking or whispering - remember, all eyes will be on you!
- Pay attention - this is an honor, so take it seriously.
What if I am sick or something comes up, and I can't be at the ceremony, even though I RSVPed?
Please notify Ms. Hill ASAP!!! We will miss you, but we need to adjust the ceremony so that there is no confusion due to your absence.
Will there be snacks?
There will be a short reception following the ceremony, which will include light refreshments to eat and drink.
