The Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District has launched the Beacon Initiative that will increase academic achievement and graduation rates at 14 of its urban schools. This district initiative will transform culture, instruction, and leadership in order to provide sustainable results. CMS has partnered with the University of Virginia to provide key professional development to district and school leaders around four key turnaround levers: leadership, instructional infrastructure, differentiated support and accountability, and talent management. Additionally, tailored coaching and support will be provided to each school and leader based on individual needs.
The vision of the Beacon Initiative is to create sustainable systems and process that result in accelerated academic outcomes for all students.
The Purpose of the Beacon Initiative is to collaboratively leverage school and district resources to increase academic achievement and prepare students for college and career through strategic planning, professional development, and individualized support.
