McAlpine Elementary School

Every student matters. Every moment counts.

With the latest events that have occurred, school safety is on everyone's mind. Keeping staff and students safe at McAlpine Elementary School is of utmost importance. McAlpine Elementary School has a safety plan that is to be activated in the event of an emergency. While staff is trained to implement this plan, specific details in these plans are kept confidential to ensure maximum security effectiveness.

Throughout the year McAlpine conducts a variety of emergency drills, including lock-down drills at least twice a year. So far this year we have conducted three drills and have made necessary changes to ensure maximum effectiveness.

Here at McAlpine all exterior access doors are locked during the school day and admittance is controlled. We use the Lobby Guard system for check-in, and the system alerts staff when persons who should not be on campus attempt to be admitted.

The only parents or visitors allowed in the building during morning arrival time are the parents of EC Pre-K students and AU students. All other parents are asked to contact the teacher for an appointment if they have questions or concerns about their child's education.

Counseling and support services are always available. Parents can contact school staff if they notice disturbing changes in behavior or think their children may need mental/emotional support for any reason.

If you or your child is aware of any threat, is important to speak up: "If you see something, say something." All threats to any CMS school are taken seriously and investigated immediately and thoroughly by CMS PD, Charlotte Mecklenburg PD, and CMS administration. In North Carolina, it is a felony to make such threats, which is why all threats are investigated thoroughly and anyone found to have communicated a threat is punished to the fullest extent of the law.

We are a family who truly puts the needs of each child first. Join us as we work together to keep  our students and staff safe. If you have questions, please contact me at
