Opening in August 2007, Mallard Creek High School is a comprehensive high school located on a beautiful 24 acre campus in the University Area of Charlotte, North Carolina.  Serving over 2,600 students from diverse backgrounds in grades 9 through 12, Mallard Creek is one of over 30 high schools in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School district.  MCHS was recognized with an Award for National Excellence in Urban Education by the National Center for Urban School Transformation in 2014 and 2017. 

Faculty & Staff

Students at Mallard Creek High School are served by a highly motivated and dedicated faculty and staff.  Just over half of the faculty has earned a master's or doctorate degree and 10% of the faculty has earned National Board Certification.

School Demographics (2016-2017)

Our student body of over 2,600 students is comprised of 67% African-American, 14% White, 5% Multi-Racial, and 5% Asian.  Ethnically, 9% of our students are Hispanic.  Our student body represents a wide range of backgrounds from socio-economic, religious, and political viewpoints.

Academics

Picture of Mallard Creek High School CrestIn our focus to produce graduates that are college and career ready, Mallard Creek High School offers a wide-range of rigorous and relevant courses in all subject areas.  Students who wish to pursue a future in science, math, the humanities, visual arts, performing arts, engineering or business have several options to choose from when registering for courses, including over 100 courses offered through our NC Virtual Public School lab and the NC College and Career Promise program.  Mallard Creek offers a compliment of services for students with disabilities, special needs and are English language learners.  In 2013, MCHS welcomed a program for students with Autism, which continues to make a profoundly positive impact on our faculty, staff and student body.  In 2017, MCHS welcomed the AP Capstone program, which includes AP Seminar and AP Research classes. In addition:

  • 20% of students are enrolled in Advanced Placement courses

  • The 2016-2017 graduation rate was 97.8%

  • The Class of 2017 earned $16 million in scholarships

  • Extended Day opportunities are available for students needing extra support

Athletics

Mallard Creek High School offers a full range of competitive athletics to both boys and girls through tennis, golf, swimming, track and field, football, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, soccer, wrestling, cross country and cheerleading.  Mallard Creek is a division 4A school and a part of the I-MECK Conference.Mallard Creek High School Logo

Although MCHS is a relatively new school, our students in team and individual sports have won numerous conference and state titles.  In the fall of 2013, 2014, and 2015 the varsity football team won the 4AA State Championship. In track and field the men's 4x200-meter relay team won the 4A state championship in 2013, and the men's 4x100 meter team won the 4A state championship in 2014. Alycia Springs was the 2014 4A women's track and field shot put state champion. In February 2015 Keon Howe won the state championship in high jump at the NCHSAA 4A indoor track state championships. Waddell McNeely won the 2015 NCHSAA 4A State Championship in wrestling for 160 lb. weight class on February 2015. The Men's Track and Field team won its first NCHSAA 4A State Championship May 2015. Several students have earned athletic scholarships at every collegiate level through their commitment to academics and athletics.

Countless clubs and activities at Mallard Creek High School provide students with the opportunity to learn through collaboration, service and competition. Students are encouraged to join clubs, attend school events and complete community service hours through our PRIDE Incentive Program by rewarding students for each level of participation.  The VEX Robotics Team has won 2 State Championships.
