About Our School

Who We Are:

Lincoln Heights Academy (LHA) is a K-12 public separate school in the CMS Programs for Exceptional Children.  LHA is unique in that it is the only K-12 public separate school established to exclusively support the behavioral and emotional needs of students with disabilities in all counties making up North Carolina's Southwest region.  Our small school setting offers predictable routines and structures, positive behavior interventions, targeted academic supports and high quality standards based instruction aligned to students' Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).  Placement at LHA is determined through the IEP team process.  For questions regarding enrollment, please contact the CMS Exceptional Children's department at 980-343-6960.

Our Mission:

To empower students and families to be successfully engaged in society through academic and social growth.

Our Vision:

To be a model public separate school where all stakeholders are committed to work collaboratively to ensure the development and future success of every student.

We need you! Help name our new school!

As you may know, our program is receiving a "new home", and we need your help!  In the past 10 years, our program has relocated to 5 different facilities/school sites.  Formally known as Morgan School, we were renamed Lincoln Heights Academy in the 2012-2013 school year, the first year in the current school facility.  Our new facility, which is currently under construction, will need a new name, as the Lincoln Heights name will remain with the current school facility located at 1900 Newcastle Street.  We are excited to share that we will be moving into the new school facility for the 2019-2020 school year!

Please share your naming suggestions, as well as indicate interest in serving on the naming committee, by completing the quick survey below.  Our students, staff, families and community members will have opportunities to provide input and make recommendations.  When we return from the winter break (January 2019), a naming committee will work with school administration to review and research all recommended names.  The committee will then select 3 names to present to the superintendent.

New EC Specialized School Building - Coming August 2019!

Thanks to the efforts of our wonderful community of Charlotte passing the School Bond last November, we will finally have our own "home"!  Our program will be relocating to a newly constructed school building for the '19-'20 school year.  Click on the link below to follow construction updates on the CMS website:

Boys Town Specialized Classroom Management

The Boy's Town Specialized Classroom Management Model (SCM) is a research based program used to teach, shape and reinforce appropriate behaviors, connecting directly to the vision and mission of Lincoln Heights as we work to prepare students for life outside of our school.  Using the SCM model helps to promote a safer environment and helps to empower the students to take ownership of their actions, advocate for themselves and learn appropriate ways to express themselves when feeling frustrated.  One of the key components of this program is the Social Skills Curriculum which focuses on 16 social skills. To view the 16 Social Skills, along with steps for each skill, please visit the following link:   http://www.sppswaterloo.org/misc/Boys_Town.pdf
