DECEMBER 8

I hope everyone is enjoying the wonderful sight of the snow falling this evening. Please remember to be safe as you go about your weekend.

Future City practice for tomorrow has been canceled due to the weather. We will practice on Sunday afternoon as planned.

Scholars should have received progress reports this week. If you have concerns about grades, please contact the teacher. If your child is taking Spanish, grades are being fixed. Progress reports for Spanish will come home on Monday, December 11th.

Our boys' and girls' basketball team will play James Martin on Monday, December 11th.

The chorus will have a winter concert on Tuesday, December 12th.

Our band will have a winter concert on Wednesday, December 13th.

Our orchestra will have an orchestra concert at North Meck High School on Thursday, December 14th at 7:00 pm.

All scholars are strongly encouraged to participate in these performances as it counts as a formal grade.

Our wonderful PTSA is hosting our annual Cookie Walk on Friday, December 15th. Please consider donating baked goods, cookies, or cakes. We are still accepting donations to INVEST IN EXCELLENCE. It is tax deductible. Please visit our JMA PTSA website for more information.

All of our ELA teachers are encouraging our scholars to read 40 books this year. It may seem like a lot but research shows children who read regularly are more successful in school and college. Please support our efforts by making sure your child is reading a book of his/her choice each night. More information can be found on our ELA teacher websites.

Save the Date:

Ms. Marsh, our school counselor, is working with community partners to offer Kinder Mourn grief support next semester. Please contact her if these services are needed.

We also have an opportunity to offer 8 sessions of Mandarin classes twice per week in January. Each class is $20.00 for a total of $160.00. Contact Ms. Marsh if you are interested.


DECEMBER 1

Our PTSA is sponsoring our Book Fair next week! Since it has a cowboy theme, we are encouraging our scholars and staff to wear cowboy hats and boots on Monday to kick off the week!Scholars have flyers in their book bag and teachers will have a wish list in the media center! Thank you in advance for supporting our fall book fair. These would make great gifts and support our 40 Book Challenge Initiative!

Scholars attending the Williamsburg Trip- The third payment is due next week. If you have any questions, please see Mr. Whitehead.

Progress Reports will be distributed Thursday, December 7th and Friday, December 8th. Contact your child’s teacher directly if you have questions regarding grades.

The Fall Athletic Banquet is Tuesday at 6:30 pm. Contact Ms. Pope if you have questions.

JMA experienced success at the CMS all county orchestra auditions. Seven scholars were selected for honors orchestra. Congratulations to you all!

A JMA scholar is sponsoring a donation drive for the Levine’s Children’s Hospital. She is requesting new toys, school supplies, Lego’s, puzzles,  action figures or any other items you think children may enjoy. A box has been placed in the main office of JMA.

Wednesday, December 6th is an Early Release Day. School will dismiss at 1:15 pm. Children will take their normal mode of transportation home. All afternoon practices are canceled for this day.


NOVEMBER 20

Honor Roll will be held on Monday, November 20th. Seventh grade scholars will have their program at 1:00 pm, sixth grade at 2:15 pm, and 8th grade at 3:15 pm. The program will be in the gym. Parents are invited to attend.

Lost and found will be donated after Thanksgiving Break. Please check the stacks in the cafeteria next week!

Elections will be held on Monday, November 20 for Student Council. Candidates are allowed to present one minute speeches on why they should be elected. Mr. Whitehead will review the messages before they are read.

JMA's Rugby Team started practice last week but there is still time to register. If you'd like to come see what Rugby is all about, come to the JMA field on Tuesday at 4:30. Come ready to play and bring a bottle of water. This practice is FREE- you do not have to be registered to play. Registration information will be available at the Tuesday, 11/21 practice.

The fall community service log deadline has been extended to Tuesday, November 21st. All logs are due to first block teachers or the main office.

For our TD identified scholars - The annual DEP meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 28th from 5:30-6:30 in the media center. If you have questions, please contact Ms. South.

 School will be closed on October 22,23, and the 24th in observance of Thanksgiving Holiday.


NOVEMBER 10

All scholars received their first quarter report cards on Thursday. If you have any questions about grades, please contact your teachers.

Our celebration for honor roll will be held on November 20th. Seventh grade will begin at 1:00 pm, Sixth grade will begin at 2:00 pm and Eighth grade will begin at 3:15 pm.

Scholars in sixth and seventh grades participated in NC Check In testing. This test is aligned to the EOG and will give us valuable information regarding mastery of reading for 6th and 7th graders and math for 6th graders. We will share this data with you when it is available.

The district has a new locator app for bus riders. Here Comes the Bus is a tracking locator that will give real time arrivals for our morning and afternoon buses. This app is free for CMS families. For access, please go to http://herecomesthebus.com. Our district code is 73877. You will need your child’s student ID number.

Our Athletic Boosters will meet at 6:00 pm on Monday in the large conference room. If you have a scholar athlete participating in any sports this year, this is an organization you will want to be a part of. Mr. Bunker is our president. Other board positions are available.

Our PTSA is hosting a program for parents regarding Suicide Awareness on Tuesday at 6:30 pm in our media center. Middle school is a critical time in our scholars’ lives. Come and learn warning signs and how to be more proactive with our children.

Tryouts for boys’ basketball will begin Tuesday, Nov. 14th. Girls’ basketball tryouts will begin on Friday, Nov. 17th.Please make sure all registration information has been turned in to Ms. Pope. Tryout practices for winter cheerleading will begin November 15, 16, and 17. Tryouts will be November 20th.

We also have a new step club for girls. The Blue Diamond Steppers will practice next Monday- Thursday from 4:30-6:00 pm. More information will be shared at practice.

Student Council candidates can begin campaigning on Monday, Nov. 13th. Elections will be held on Monday, Nov. 20th and the winners will be announced on November 21st.

Lastly, school was closed today in observance of Veterans Day. The actual holiday is on Saturday, November 11th. Take a moment to thank a veteran for his/her service to our country.

School will also be closed on November 22-24 for Thanksgiving Break. Please enjoy this time with family and friends and if you are traveling, please be safe. This concludes our announcements for the week. Thank you as always for your continued support!


NOVEMBER 3

EpicFest is an extraordinary, FREE literary festival that connects families, children and teens with book authors, illustrations, and the Library. Please consider taking your child to ImaginOn located downtown for this wonderful event on tomorrow, from 10:00 am-4:00 pm.

Our last volley ball game is here at JMA on Monday, November 6th.

Our football team will play at Coulwood Middle on Wednesday, November 8th.

7th grade will complete their NC Check In this coming Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Sixth grade completed their NC Check this past week. This assessment is aligned to our EOG and will give us valuable data to share with the scholars and you. Please make sure your seventh grader is rested for this test. No prior studying is required.

Make Up Picture Day is on Thursday, November 9th during 2nd block. Please see Ms. Casorso for a picture packet if needed.

Scholars will also receive their report card on Thursday, November 9th.

We will not have school on Friday, November 10th in observance of Veteran's Day.  

 Basketball Tryouts begin this month. Please see Ms. Pope to pick up your tryout packets.
