We sent our Future Cities teams to the state competition over the weekend.  Our 8th grade team placed fourth, earning $400.  Congratulations!!!

The Future City Competition is a national, project-based learning experience, where students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades imagine, design and build cities of the future.  Students work as a team with an educator and engineer mentor to plan cities using SimCity software; research and write solutions to an engineering problem; build tabletop scale models with recycled materials; and present their ideas before judges.

The teams begin research in October to solve a problem. This year’s theme was “Feeding Future Cities.”  They select one vegetable and one protein, as well as design a way to grow enough of each within city limits to feed citizens. Through engineering design, the scholars solve the problem.

CMS, along with the entire state of North Carolina, has migrated to a new student management program called PowerSchool.  Parents will be able to remain involved with their scholar's progress through the PowerSchool Module called Parent Portal. This module for parents will allow for easy access of grades and attendance as well as the school bulletin and other items.

Attention Scholars:  You can also use this portal to monitor your own grades and attendance.  Just login in to the same Parent Portal website with your PowerSchool login/password that was given to you at the beginning of school.
