Hello Jay M. Robinson Families,
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and let you know about my professional experiences prior to becoming Principal of Jay M. Robinson Middle School. First off, I am one of the many transplants in the area! Family is very important to me. I met my wife while living here in Charlotte and together we have dedicated our lives to supporting children. I began my teaching career in CMS after graduating from East Carolina University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Middle School Education. I spent six and half years teaching Language Arts and Social Studies in CMS at Carmel Middle School. In May of 2008, I graduated from Winthrop University where I earned a Master Degree in Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Leadership. During my Masters program, I completed principal internships at Carmel Middle School and Elon Park Elementary School. After earning my Masters degree, I was offered the position of Assistant Principal at Ballantyne Elementary School where I served the Ballantyne community for a little over a year. It was at this point in my career where I was offered the principalship of Matthews Elementary School. I served the Matthews Community for just under five years. In June of 2014, I was blessed to be offered the principalship of our tremendous school.
My wife and I have been married since 2008, and we are the proud parents of two wonderful little boys. We have two children Michael and Marshall. My wife and I have been on an adventure together as our son Michael has a been diagnosed with a special genetic metabolic condition, PKU, which requires a restrictive diet. As parents, we have certainly learned a lot and will continue to learn and grow as a family. I would be remiss if I did mention our Boston Terrier, Millie, as a member of our family!
My Goals as Instructional Leader at Jay M. Robinson:
My goals as the Instructional Leader at Jay M. Robinson School is to ensure that the educational experiences that we offer your child on a daily basis will extend far beyond textbook knowledge and educate the whole child because that is what I would hope for my own children. My vision is to see that every child have an engaging, relevant learning environment that challenges them to succeed beyond their own expectations. At Robinson, we will provide rigorous learning experiences that will enable your child to think critically, have opportunities to become an excellent communicator, and a productive, caring community member. We will have a strong focus on academic rigor and increase our use of technology to better prepare our students for the 21st century. As educators, we will continue to reflect and refine our instructional practices through data analysis. We will use assessment data to inform our teaching practices and implement research-based approaches that are differentiated to meet the needs of your child.
Home and school partnerships are an integral part of our success at Robinson! I encourage you to become an active partner in your child’s education by staying in close contact with your child’s teachers and with the school staff. Please consider joining our school’s PTA, volunteering at the school, and participating in the numerous events that we have planned for this school year. Working together, I know we can make this another year of excellence at Jay M. Robinson Middle School!
