Hurricane Florence "Schools Helping Schools" Service Project
It all started with a text from a First Grade Teacher at JT Barber Elementary in New Bern, NC to friends requesting help for her school. With over 90% of student families losing their homes and everything they own, the need is overwhelming them. The text turned into phone calls that reached across the state and became the Hurricane Florence "Schools Helping Schools" Service Project.
Thank you all so much to those who donated! We are proud to say that four schools, Huntersville Elementary near Charlotte and three in Raleigh, Wakefield Elementary, Abbotts Creek Elementary and Durant Road Elementary all collected donations at their schools from their communities that after two weeks filled a 16' truck! These donations made it across the state last Thursday and Friday to be presented to JT Barber on Friday afternoon. We were welcomed with open arms and hearts full of thanks. The response was beyond overwhelming and we know will be put to good use for families and a school that are truly in need now and in the future.
Not only did we take with us a truck full of supplies, but we were also able to present a $3,500 check to JT Barber Elementary with the funds from the GoFundMe account. This was created to provide future funds as they enter a year or possibly more of rebuilding. That amount has since grown to over $4,000 and continues to climb. For those who did not get a chance to contribute and would like to, the GoFundMe account will remain open. These funds will go a long way to helping with even more long term needs.
The pictures below capture the amazing days that we had not only collecting and loading, but the wonderful culmination of delivery to JT Barber Elementary. We cannot thank you enough! Your generosity and support made all of this possible and continues to show that are amazing things are possible when people come together!
All of our thanks!
